Dreaded Wait Lists

Hello, very new to all this so please be kind!!! Have a question for anyone whose son is currently on a waitlist or anyone who has been on a wait list?!!! We’re on a few (lol) for entry 2019 and wondered when do you start to panic and do wait lists actually materialise into something or is it a case of almost there but not quite!!!!

I’m glad we haven’t had to pay a deposit yet but it’s all so confusing, they obviously like something about DS otherwise they wouldn’t have him on wait lists.

DS is on a top boys boarding school waitlist and a few coeds but think i’d rather a no than this maybe business.

Wondering if a plan b is needed or just good old fashioned patience.....😩

Thank you so much

Both!

There is absolutely no way of knowing what will happen, but I think you do have to have a plan b.

DS was on the Eton waiting list for two years. First we were told that usually half the boys got places, then we told that it was moving very slowly. Eventually he got a place, with about 6 months to go.

It’s a difficult time, but it was much worse for us than for him, and I know he would have been quite happy at Plan b school if things hadn’t worked out.

There are things you can do to boost his position slightly, so do keep in touch with the school.

I agree, your waitlist place may turn into an actual place but equally it may not, due to factors you can't influence. My DS had a waitlist place at a top boys school and also three firm offerers from co-eds. As time went by he decided he wanted to be in a mixed school, we thought our first co-ed preference was much more suited to him and we have been delighted with our choice. Good job really as nothing ever came if the waitlist place. Don't give up, but definitely have a plan B that you are happy with. Good luck.
