evening everyone, im looking into private school starting age 11. the area will be just outsidw london. wondering about the cost and whether there are any 'cheaper' ones about. thanks

Just outside London is a vast area - are you looking north / south / east / west?

Age of your DC would also be useful. Application deadlines may be closer than you think

Why not get the Good Schools Guide from your library which lists all independent schools, costs etc.
Then you can go to school websites, but secondary school in London average between £16.000 - £18.500 a year. Unless you get a scholarship.

Do they have any special interests etc? (Music/sports...)
No such thing as a cheap independent school!
What research have you done so far?

I think you should have a look at the good schools guide. Day is cheaper than boarding but outside those parameters you generally get what you pay for. You also have to consider what kind of school would bring out the best in your child and what schools your child can get into.

Sometimes all girls are cheaper than co ed and day schools cheaper than those than offer boarding as well as day as these may offer an extended school day.
Gdst schools are often not the most expensive in an area.
If a school is very cheap you may wish to question why.
Very old established schools are more likely to have a larger bursary pot.
