Compulsory after school sports clubs

Ds2 has just informed me he will be late home tonight as he has a compulsory sports club after school.

Can they do this? He has chosen a sport he doesn't even like because it was the best of a bad bunch. And it is definitely compulsory.

He already does 2 sessions of a sport each week and is in training for an upcoming event, meaning he is physically pushing himself each night anyway.

He is in year 7. His brother is in year 10 and never had this.

Sounds like a new endeavour to get children active. A letter from you outlining the other sports he does outside school should do the trick - worth a try anyway. Sure it's mainly for those children who don't do any sport after school.

Thanks, I am assuming it is. There is a whole push to get involved with school so I do understand it but the compulsory bit irks.

I'll see what he says tonight when he comes out so I know who to address the letter to.

It was a last minute I'll be late as he walked out the door moment. Very typical of Ds2.
