Bromley secondary schools

Hi, we are moving to Bromley soon to be near elderly parents.

I would love to hear from mums who have children in Langley, Ravensbourne, Hayes or Harris, as it is likely we will end up in the catchment of one of these schools.

We will of course visit, and I have looked at their ofsted reports, but because we are moving from north London we don't know anyone with kids there. Many thanks x

Welcome to the Borough, a great place to bring up a family. I don’t have direct experience of those schools as we are in another part of the Borough but I have had friends whose DCs have just left both Langley girls and Langley Boys and they both loved the schools. Their DCs were all very different so it seems to be a school that fits a wide variety of children. Both the boys and girls schools are very popular so it will depend on spaces and availability if you are doing an in-year transfer and not looking at September 2019+ entry.

Harris have a bit of a reputation of weeding those out who won’t do justice to their league table positions they crave so do keep an eye on that.

You also have the option of grammar if your children are currently in Y5 or below.

Good luck with the move.

Hi - thank you!

I didn't know that about Harris...

We are cutting it really fine, our DD currently in yr5, so we are hoping the buying and selling happens quickly!!

Avoid Harris and Ravensbourne.

The Langleys and Hayes are all very good.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 31/12/2017 00:38

Harris has a dreadful reputation for lots worse than Petts has said. Tip of the iceberg I can assure you.

elizabethcharlotte · 31/12/2017 16:22

Langley and Hayes are both excellent schools but buy your house very carefully as the catchment areas are very small. Hayes' catchment gets smaller every year. Ravensbourne seems ok but avoid Harris for so many reasons!

Both of mine went to Hayes. Dd is still there. It's an excellent school, but the facilities are a bit dated. Langley boys school is brand new and looks great. Dd went there for 6th form, but didn't like it, so went back to Hayes.

My nieces are at ravensbourne. They love it. The school has been supportive, their parents are always praising something or another about it.
But do go and look around. What school suits one child may not suit another. You will know what will suit your child. Good luck with the move.

Agree with others, avoid Harris at all costs! My Dd is at Langley & loves it Hayes is also excellent. Ravensbourne is improving but the other 2 schools are better

Interesting to hear the feedback on Harris - thank you everyone.

I have heard good things about Ravensbourne, and apparently there is a new school opening next year close by.

Good point MrsWhirly. Eden Park High is currently operating out of Ravensbourne School grounds but has plans to move to a separate site in due course. They do extended hours.

MrsWhirly · 03/01/2018 08:27

I'll see if the council can tell me where they're moving too! X

It’s all on the Eden Park High website about their planned location.

hornetgirl · 03/01/2018 21:54

My son is in year 8 at Harris Beckenham and is thriving, happy and making good progress.

I have two daughters in year 6 and they will either end up in Eden Park High or Harris Brom or Harris Beck. To be honest I would be happy with all three.

Good to know Hornetgirl x
