Cyber Security Programme - anyone doing it in year 9?

This is the Government's new Cyber-Security initiative aimed at Year 10 - 13: joincyberdiscovery.com/

Just wondering if there are any Year 9's doing it and, if so, how are they finding it? My son is only in Year 9 but was given a leaflet for it by a teacher at school along with a few others, some of whom have signed up. It looks like he would need to lie about his age, which is one consideration, but I'm also wondering about the level of challenge. (He's bright, but then presumably so are most of the Year 10's doing it).

“he would need to lie about his age”

Um... I think that should answer your question.

There used to be a similar thing dd1 did, and I'm sure she started in year 9. It was run by something like Southampton university. She did it in year 9 and 10. I'll see if I can find some details.

Thanks Witchend. That would be the Cypher Challenge.

This new one is part of the government's recruitment drive for the next generation of cyber security specialists, so it's aimed at the same market, but is more formal. It's only just kicking off and given the lack of chatter on here I guess it hasn't penetrated very far yet.
