Schools like a prison

Hello!

I'm looking for advice and basically to reassure myself that I'm in the right!

I am a secondary school teacher in a very disadvantaged area who is massively slated for basically caring more about the students as individuals than I care about ofsted.

I want my classroom to be an inspiring safe space where students can feel comfortable. I have very few behavioural issues and a form class of 52 students. I'm thinking 'I wish my teacher knew...' boxes and some wellbeing posters and leaflets etc for advice, as well as setting up a mentor scheme may be useful without taking up my 'planning time' which quite frankly I'd rather give to students...

I have recently been reprimanded for simple things such as focusing on teaching 15/16 year olds to read instead of focusing on curriculum, despite doing it on my 'planning hours' and taking my planning home ... and I'm sick of it!

Any ideas would be greatly received!

You need to change schools for your own sanity/health.

What Frendo said.

With an added how the fuck do they expect children to access the curriculum properly if they can’t read?
