entrance into year 13

For sixth form entry many schools require six or seven GCSE's A-C with A/A for the subjects to be studied.

If you look at AS results for many of the private schools they don't look that good (include several E and U grades) but the A level results look fantastic mainly A and B do these schools get the students to resit or just get rid of the students as they would look bad on statistics

I think they get rid of them.........

I teach in a state school and we often comment on this.

Don' forget that students generally drop a subject after Y12, so some of the bad results are in the subject that is to be given up. They may also "sacrifice" one subject to get decent results in others. Private sixth form colleges take quite a few students in Y13 and do the A Levels from scratch in a year - perhaps some of the worst performers are told to go there?

I was told that they had to choose which one they were only taking to AS at the beginning of year 12,
perhaps the state school is more honest about the total intake and results
