A level field trip 20% of mark....concussion?

Ds2 has returned from football with what appears to be concussion - slurred speech, blurred vision and numbness. Dh has taken him to A&E. They've arrived and ds2 feels a bit better. They're waiting to be seen.

Ds2 is panicking as he has an A level field trip - 3 night stay after travel on train - from Tuesday. It's worth 20% of his final A level mark. What happens if the docs say he can't go?

Speak with the college as soon as you can on Monday morning if that’s the case. They will usually require a letter from the doctors for the exam board. They may be able to cobble together a way for him to do part of the cwk or the exam board may make exceptions. I work in a college and it would be a case of see what the exam board says with that information ASAP to get whatever needed in place. But you will require a full doctors letter explaining what’s happened - not a sick note.

Also try not to panic. Any college worth it’s salt will do the best they can for your son. Main thing is that he gets well! No point him being stressed and making himself worse.

OK. Thanks for that. I'll pass that info to dh. I'll phone sixth form first thing tomorrow....actually I've got Head of Geography's email address so I can email her later when we know for sure.

I can't believe it. He's so hard working - got A in his AS, but that doesn't count towards the final mark.

Just seen your second post...dh has told him not to worry. It's not important right now, but don't think ds2 is listening at the moment.

Honestly it’s that early in the year they have time to sort it out. So really don’t panic. I know what it’s like though I work in pastoral care so its usually me that gets the first phone calls for things like this. It’s not ideal no, but life happens and you just have to find a way around it. Main thing is that he gets better otherwise he’ll be in a worse situation - never mind for college!
