Understanding targets Y9

Champagnecharleyismyname · 20/09/2017 14:18

I am struggling to understand my DD target grades in Y9. She has targets of 5 or 6 in each subject. I have looked in the school website and this seems to be based on the new GCSE grades but I don't know if this is what she would be expected to achieve at GCSEs or what she is capable of now?

Anyone else's school use similar? I will email school to try and clarify but also wanted to check other experiences.

No all it says is that 'all students are set end of year targets aimed at making progress towards a final gcse grade. Targets are based on students achieving at least their expected attainment according to their KS2 data. Targets and assessment grades are reported using the new gcse grading system'.

I am sure that makes sense to a teacher but I don't understand if that means she is on for level 5/6 at Y11 or she is achieving that now. Parents evening is not until march.

What did she get for her y6 SATs?

If she got 4s, then target meaning GCSE 5/6 in y11 sounds likely.

However if she got level 5/6 then GCSE grade 5/6 standard in y9 sounds more plausible.

I would speak to the school. In my son's its a prediction of the grade he would get eventually if he continued to work at the same level as expected.

She got level 5s in her SATs, just missed level 6 in maths by 3 marks and SPAG by 1mark.

I wish all schools did the same. I will email the school.
