MyMaths homework year 7

dd1 has just started secondary school and is loving it. Just had a huge wobble though-first maths homework showing on MyMaths and it seems an awful lot. She was given log in on Friday and has 6 separate exercises, each about 10 questions , all with a due date of tomorrow.

She's done some. I am guessing there's been a hiccup and that the teacher has set homework for more than one lesson in one batch, then not explained well or dd didn't take in instruction.

Those of you whose dc do secondary homework on MyMaths, do you think I could be right? She goes to a good school with pretty high standards, but it's also very inclusive and id be amazed if, in week 2, that was the intended amount of homework! Fingers crossed...

Secondary can be a big step up. DS1 uses mymaths and that would not be particularly unusual for his school. He has at least an hour and half of homework every night.

Maths teacher here and I think it would be unusual to set more than one task on my maths. Two at a push. Doesn't she have it written in her planner or anywhere? I know my maths has the function to set weeks in advance, perhaps her teacher misclicked the dates.

When I set mymaths homework, I set one task, or maybe two if it's a short one. 6 is an awful lot!

How did your DD record the homework (or how is it recorded online?) Does it detail the number of tasks?

Userwhocouldntthinkofagoodname · 17/09/2017 20:32

My DC maths teacher would set a terms worth (6 weeks) of mymaths at a time. One would be due every week. Agree that one or two would be normal for a single homework in Y7.

Thanks for the replies! I think that it probably is several homework's worth set in one go. That's a relief! They have planners and she's been good at writing down homework so far. My gut feeling is that the teacher will talk about it in the next lesson and hadn't realised how diligent/anxious some of her year sevens would be once given their logins on Friday!

My DDs myMaths task have a due date next to them - did you check that?

colourdilemma · 18/09/2017 13:00

Seeline-the due date was the problem! Six exercises to which she only had access from Friday, all with due date of Monday. We think it is a mistake, but dd was in bits because she's being very conscientious. Hey ho!

Ah - I see. Sounds like the teacher has made a mistake then. DD often has several tasks displayed, but each with a separate date.

Turns out it wasn't homework after all! Not going to get a bee in my bonnet about it but wish we'd known so as to avoid hysteria over the weekend!
