My son is keen to try the entrance exam for a local private school. My parenting style is usually quite laid back but I've said that I will help him to prepare.

So, any recommendations for study guides, websites, things we can do at home would be much appreciated.

It will depend on what the entrance exam entails really

I'd start by phoning the school or asking people who have done it previously

Then looking in wh Smith or Waterstones for practice papers

Try the Bond books for English, maths and reasoning.

Also the Galore Park books for generally bringing the curriculum in line with what prep schools cover.

Look on the school's website for sample past papers.

The important thing to cover is exam technique (working to time, getting use to the style of question)

And good luck!
