Help for ds13 with French

DS13 has just started year 9 (his school do a 3 year GCSE course) and he has just found out he is in set 3 - he is top set for everything else - and it has knocked his confidence.

Are there any websites or books that anyone could recommend that might help him progress? I don't want anything too intensive just something to help him in class and boost his confidence. He wants to aim to get to set 2 by the end of the year and has asked me to help him but I am not sure of the best approach. He is normally happy to coast along with minimal effort so I don't want to dampen his new found enthusiasm!!

duolingo app on his phone, then he does 10 minutes every day.

Not perfect but does practice the basics and they have to speak too.

Thanks, I will have a look at the app, that sounds a good start as he could do that on the drive to school.
