I'm feeling much better about it than I expected, probably because DS is feeling so positive about it. He's a tiny bit nervous, but definitely more excited.

Want to say a bit about why you're dreading it, Ojoj?

If you dread it, why are you doing it? My DDs couldn't wait to start! We were all very positive.

FFS Bubbles, that's not helpful! OP didn't say her child was dreading it she said she was dreading it!

I dropped my DD off yesterday for her 1st day at Boarding school and although it was her choice to go (she had a day option too) we were both emotional. It is a big step and it leaves a void without a doubt but having gone through this with my DS 5 years ago it does get easier as a parent once they are fully settled, have made friends and their days are fulfilling. Once you know all of that it is easier at home to relax and breathe a sigh of relief. Although you still miss them you're not as worried.

If it is any consolation, my DS said to my DD when she was still deciding between day or boarding "Why would you NOT want to board? It is brilliant!" his experience was extremely positive and I have every confidence hers will be too it just takes a little time to adjust on both sides.

Saying all of that I was still heartbroken last night passing her empty bedroom.

DD was in her element when we dropped her off. I'm now totally chilled and v happy. I know we chosen the right school. Waiting all summer increased my nerves I think!

I wiped my tears away with £50 notes.

Mine starts (hopefully) in January...late to the game due to circumstances. My child (only child) is so excited but I am dreading it...think I will take off for the first few weeks and immerse myself in some type of activity.

I am dreading it because DC will be sooo far away (we are not in the UK), my only, we are attached at the hip emotionally (but successfully spend time apart)....I will no longer be DCs prime caregiver (will be more of a mentor) but I will always be Mum....
