I want to see how accurate those school target grades were!

DD's predictions were spot on - 8 for maths, 7 for Eng lang & lit.

In her mocks sh got 7 in maths and 8 for Eng lang and lit, but predictions were kept the same as above. She found maths exam horrendous and thought she'd dropped to a 6.

SlayeroftheVampyres · 24/08/2017 16:35

We had a few surprises either way, but our predictions for our students were broadly in line with outcome. Literature were a bit closer than Lang, but I suspect following some remarks that gap will close. Overall, as an English HoD, I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Witchend · 24/08/2017 18:02

DD they refused to predict 9 s at her school as they said they were not confident enough of the new syllabus.
She was predicted.
Maths 8
Eng Lang 7
Eng lit6/7

She got
Maths 9
Eng Lang 6
Eng lit 8

She's still amazed by Eng lit. She'd like to see the paper, but doesn't want to draw attention to it. Her teacher said more likely to get a 5 than an 8.

Laniakea · 24/08/2017 19:11

dd's were:

maths: 6 mock, 7 prediction, 8 actual
eng lit: 7 mock , 8 prediction, 9 actual
eng lang: 7 mock, 8 prediction, 8 actual

So pretty accurate I think.

The school actually had a better 9-4% than they did A*-C% last year. They got 43 9s, six students got 9s in maths & English & two got three 9s.

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/08/2017 19:19

I love that that "only three people getting three 9s in the entire country" bloke was so wrong Grin

(Also I need the thread because I can't actually remember what ds was predicted, lol!)

That "one person " applies to next year, when they're all reformed, doesn't it?

TheFrendo · 24/08/2017 19:29

Atia...,
IIRC, that prediction was for next year when (pretty much) all GCSEs are 1-9

I'd had a couple of failed attempts earlier, but just found it too Grin

Atia the three 9s in the whole country is next year not this year....

Ds' predictions pretty close actually (Maths predicted 8, got 8, Eng Lit predicted 7, got 8 god knows how, Eng Lang predicted 6, got 7).

Rest were Bs so the new papers worked well for us!!!!

Laniakea · 24/08/2017 20:03

they say 2000 have got three 9s ... I've cooked breakfast for a (very hungover) couple of those ;)

It seems to have worked okay for the more academic kids. dd's school have said this is the best set of results they've ever had, but that is from a very able cohort (coincidentally, as it is a comprehensive).

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/08/2017 20:15

Atia the three 9s in the whole country is next year not this year....

Yeah, that's what the two posters just above said! Wink I'd got the wrong impression from that TES article then I guess.

Yes its all 9s next year rather than 3 x 3 nines . They revised it anyway to be possibly up to 1,000

ChairinSage · 24/08/2017 20:36

DD was predicted 7 at maths and got an 8; predicted 7 for both English language and literature, scraped a 5. She's pleased she achieved well in maths so she can do it at A level but disappointed she didn't do as well as expected in English. I'm immensely proud of her.

She's at an academy in special measures - just 3 grade 9s in the entire year, all in maths.

Someone should probably cancel the cheque too Grin
