Passing English

Ds1 is in y11.
He got a 4 in English Language and a 3 in English Literature.

Has he passed English and exempt from resits?

I know that universities require a pass in English. Is 4 a pass for entry?

He has met the government requirement for not having to resit English. Individual sixth forms may have their own requirements.

Universities are supposed to accept a 4 per Justine Greening, but some have said they will require a 5.

Its a bit of a grey area at the moment. Some places are accepting a 4 as a pass, some insisting on a 5. ( some individual courses obviously need much higher)

it might be worth trying again? if it fits in with his time table, and if he was close to a 5?
