Can I join in too?
I am a ball of nerves, while DS seems to be non bothered on the exterior but I am sure eaqually worried inside

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 22/08/2017 21:28

Good luck to all Smile

Liney my DD has sat English for the fourth time -she has ASD so really struggles with it - she's made her way from a F to a D, would be typical that they changed to numerical grades this year as she's so focussed on getting a C.

Notanothergiraffe · 22/08/2017 21:41

Another one waiting here. DS needs 5 Bs for his first choice sixth form, he may or may not get it, I really couldn't bet even a fiver either way. He does have a plan b but while it is not disastrous it is definitely not significantly less ideal.

We just want to know what it s happening and where he will be going next year. They are very different options in different towns.

I am nervous, DS and his friends are avoiding all discussion of it at all and have been for a few weeks.

The plan for how he is getting results and who he is going with has changed several times. Currently we are taking him and waiting in the car, this may change again.

Laniakea · 22/08/2017 21:43

we're really nervous. I've had various dreams including her getting an 8 for maths but Us for everything else and last night I dreamt that she got a 4 in English but all the other results were in an alien language we couldn't read Hmm DD says she's avoiding stress dreams by not sleeping (!!!!).

She's off to Reading afterwards & I'm going to have a house full of stinky teens for the weekend because we live close enough for them all to doss here rather than camping!

She needs 5s in English, C's in her non A level subjects and 6 (preferably 7) in maths, Bs in biology & chemistry & A in physics to do the A levels she's picked but I know she's hoping for higher than that & is really worried about maths.

AliceLostinWonderland1 · 22/08/2017 22:00

We don't even have a back up plan Sad
We need at least 4As to progress to year 12!

LineysRun · 22/08/2017 22:33

Hastings, and good luck to them!

chococupcakes · 22/08/2017 22:53

@ifonly4 It's my birthday on results day, a milestone one too. My wee ds is worried about it for that reason.

Have no clue how it's going to go. H
e felt they all went well on the day but I think I'd rather him had say he sturggled a bit as it appears the strugglers do well. Roll on 24th...hopefully will be a double celebration.

SoPassRemarkable · 22/08/2017 22:54

Dd has just reminded me of the crazy geography paper she did.

She answered the three topics they'd revised. Had spare time so thought she'd have a stab at another topic which they hadn't learned.....she only had to do three!

I'm worried that if they mark three only they might not mark the right three.

chococupcakes · 22/08/2017 22:54

Excuse typos...nerves

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/08/2017 23:20

No backup plan here. DD didn't like any of the other 6th form places that were reached in a reasonable journey's time, just the newly built custom 6th form college a few miles away (that provides free buses, yay).

They require 5 GCSEs at C and above, but Bs in the subjects she wants to take. And B in English if she wants to do Psychology.

She already has an A* in maths, an A in numeracy and a B in eng lit. So I think she's going to do alright. I'm more worried that she'll be disappointed if she doesn't live up to her expectations. All the business for the last few years of predicted grades and target grades mean that she was devastated by her B.

She's waiting for results in the 3 sciences, english language, further maths (that she didn't have a choice in taking), history as well as RS and Welsh, which were both compulsory and were 'short course' subjects. Whatever that means.

She plans to rush in there first thing, grab her results, leave and either open them in the car ["I need a getaway driver, Mum!"] or to open them in her room. If she does well enough she might meet a friend later in the day. I've got her a "We're proud of you" huge Millie's cookie as a silly gift as we are, no matter what grades she'll get. But all her controlled assessments going into the exams meant she was already on a good standing.

mabelchiltern · 23/08/2017 07:44

Morning all! On holiday so having results emailed to us tomorrow - DD needs 5 Bs 6 in Eng and 5 for maths for chosen sixth form.... not guaranteed to achieve that even though she worked really hard. can't bear to see her little face if it doesn't work out. I'm immensely proud of her regardless. 🌺

EsmeMargaretNoteSpelling · 23/08/2017 07:53

My DD has done IGCSEs but will be getting numbers for maths and English. Interested that some of you doing IGCSEs will be getting letters still. I thought they all had to change.

KenHerts1 · 23/08/2017 07:57

Don't fret. Is anyone thinking about new apprenticeships.

DietingAgain · 23/08/2017 08:06

DD needs 4 A's and at least 6 in maths and English to stay on at her schools sixth form and is quite stressed at the thought of leaving her much loved school.
If she's has to go to her second choice she will also have to give up her part time job as the distance means she wouldn't get back in time.

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 08:18

Feeling sick to my stomach with all this bad press. DD was forced to sit AQA English Lit a year early in year 10 aged just 14. She had a massive panic attack in paper 1 and had to be removed for ten mins. She said paper 2 was better.
Seeing what she has been writing it is 100% better than anything I ever wrote and I got an A in 1992.
Poor kid just wants to scrape a 4 so she doesn't have to resit, but she failed the mock (got a 3). The entire cohort failed the mock.
I sent her paper to my friend who is an English teacher and she said she would have graded it a 7???
Completely unknown quantities and a real mess.

Livingdiisgracefully · 23/08/2017 08:32

Having to get 4As sounds a massive pressure but probably a private school (!) so hopefully they've been really well prepared, so should be okay.

My son has to get 5 A-Cs including English Language and at least a 7 in maths, which he wants to do for A level. I was quite firm with him about working hard before the exams but now the results are due, it'll be all about supporting him if anything goes wrong. Pretty sure he'll have done enough as he (appeared to) put a lot of effort in.

Holding hands with all nervous parents!

Livingdiisgracefully · 23/08/2017 08:33

Should have been (?) not (!), lol

Teddygirlonce · 23/08/2017 08:39

@DietingAgain sounds like DS - only difference being that he's not even voiced the notion that he may end up as his fall-back sixth form option. Not sure whether that's total denial kicking in or that he's quietly more confident than he's admitting to.

DS tells me that The Student Room is the home of the super-nerds who are over invested in their studies.

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 09:17

I've been lurking but not posting, and getting a lot of comfort from other posts. My dd has been very stressed all summer and has had nightmares this week. She's worked so hard, far more than ds did, but won't achieve his grades because of her mild dyslexia. Can't wait for tomorrow to be over. Wishing all your dcs the best, and a large Gin or Wine for us all tomorrow when it is over.

Will you chuck me off the thread if I mention grade boundaries? According to dd there are some Edexcel grade boundaries floating about on twitter. All I can remember is that the 7 in Maths was 124 to 157 raw marks (I think the whole thing is out of 240. Does that make any sense to anyone? I know lots of people need a 7 for sixth form Maths/sciences, as does dd. She's gone to work now (thank goodness she won't be moping round the house all day), so I can't ask her for the links or more details.

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 09:19

I still don't understand UMS or raw marks so I may be making no sense Confused

Madhairday · 23/08/2017 09:28

I feel dreadful as I'm not going to be able to be with DD in the morning as I've been admitted to hospital Sad thankfully she will be there but I so wanted to be there for her.

Thinking of all the dcs, especially today and over night!

Madhairday · 23/08/2017 09:29

That should say thankfully dh will be there, obviously she will be!

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 09:31

Oh dear Madhairday. Flowers to you and good luck to your dd. Hope you're home soon, and recovered.

Phaedra11 · 23/08/2017 09:53

I've not really posted about DS2 as I did about DS1 at this time, partly because I feel his situation is a bit different and am not sure if others would understand, but I now see CiderwithBuda has a similar situation with her DS. DS2 has had a lot of time off through headaches and migraines, though fortunately we now seem to have found a medication which had helped a lot.

Cider, Regarding the mental health angle, it can be a difficult one to pick apart as actually one's wellbeing takes a dip the day or so before a migraine anyway. It can look to outsiders as if the sufferer is stressed and that has caused the migraine, whilst the oncoming migraine has actually caused the mood swing, irritability etc. Though stress is of course a common migraine trigger! There is also the factor that prolonged time spent suffering, being isolated from your peers and not being able to do what you want to do can be depressing! And some medications for migraines can affect mood, just to add to the mix!

Good luck to your, and everybody's, DC tomorrow.

Eusebius · 23/08/2017 09:56

MadHair - Hope you get well soon and hope your DD gets the right grades so there's something to celebrate.
