Teddy - To be fair, I wouldn't say The StudentRoom is just for nerds. It's just that particular thread that was all about grades. The site is full of tons of very useful, very good information for any student ranging university applications, personal statements, how enjoyable a uni is, from a student's point of view, current affairs etc. Any student would do well to pop in there at least once or twice just to look around.

DietingAgain · 23/08/2017 10:28

@Livingdiisgracefully she's at a state grammar not private, I think they were well prepared at school but didn't see her doing as much private study as was recommended, so am feeling nervous for her.
Am hoping the maths 6 doesn't trip her up, not her favourite subject!

CiderwithBuda · 23/08/2017 10:50

Hi Phaedra - sorry your DS has faced similar. You are right about how complicated it is. He is having acupuncture which has made a huge difference to the migraines but then when they were abating, got himself into a rabbit caught in headlights frame of mind about going back to school. He was stressed about the attention he would get. He WASNT stressed about the exams but said if he went back he would become stressed.

I'm so pleased he is seeing a psychologist. She is working on strategies for him going back to school and dealing with the migraines.

I hope your DS is OK and gets the results he wants.

Livingdiisgracefully · 23/08/2017 10:53

Dieting wow they do expect a lot at your daughter's school, given it's state albeit selective. Good preparation though I think makes a massive difference, as does being taught how to study effectively. I helped my son with this as he thought just reading and copying out notes was enough Shock.

I'm hoping the grade boundaries with English and maths will be kind this year. I really think they don't want to see too much grade slippage in English and maths -having introduced it so hastily- as it the first year of presentation (Mr Gove's vanity project).

Hope your daughter gets what she needs. Is there a decent college nearby as back up?

Livingdiisgracefully · 23/08/2017 10:54

Strike through fail!

StepAwayFromCake · 23/08/2017 11:17

When do you suppose the email will come? Of course we're desperate to know ds's results, but don't want to keep asking him. He's the sort who will sing it from the rooftops if he gets the results he hopes for, but will completely mask it if he doesn't.

Starting to feel a little sick here as well. Went through it 4 years ago with DD1 but as they have changed so much it's a whole new ball game.

DD2 has said I can take her down but not to come in and she is staying in the town with her friends after. I'm only allowed in if it's gone horribly wrong as she doesn't have a back up plan - she has set her heart on going to the school sixth form Confused

Dancergirl · 23/08/2017 11:43

I just want to know now!

Roll on tomorrow.

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 12:19

Buy champagne now or wait?

clary · 23/08/2017 12:33

Just asked DD if she wants me to stay around but she says no, it's fine if I go in to my school. She'll text me her results. Hmmmmmmm yeah can you ring me please?! Otherwise I'll get " yeh it was OK xxx" Grin

She is going for lunch with friends - if they get the grades they hope for...

Feeling a bit sick today, so silly really.

SoPassRemarkable · 23/08/2017 12:34

Does anyone know do they just get a grade or do you get told an actual mark as well so you can see how close to grade boundaries they are?

EsmeMargaretNoteSpelling · 23/08/2017 12:37

Asked my DD what she wanted to do tomorrow as a celebration, assuming her results are ok and she feels up to it. Go for a curry to our usual place was her answer! I can't persuade her to think outside the box. I suspect she just wants to keep it low key, she needs to get 6 Bs to go into the sixth form and I think is getting nervous now.
What plans do you have for tomorrow to celebrate?

titchy · 23/08/2017 12:48

Buy champagne now or wait?

Gin for me I suspect....

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 13:16

My DD will be going in to school with 2 friends so I've told her to phone me with results. Not sure what they'll do then, previous years the yr 11s have congregated in a big park in town. She is at a party that night so not sure when we''ll see her so think I'll get some fizz in so if she does come home and it's good news we can at least raise a glass together otherwise it feels a bit weird. She's signed herself up to work the rest of the week so our celebratory meal will have to wait! Can't knock her work ethic.

tararabumdeay · 23/08/2017 13:27

We have taken a 9% hit English Language 9 - 4 compared to A - C last year. Was expecting some reduction because Controlled Assessment was a given; exam based only; two exams not one.

There's a massive amount in the Grade 3 though. Would recommend taking money to pay for remarks.

MsHarry · 23/08/2017 13:31

Are you on the right thread Tara ?

Witchend · 23/08/2017 13:32

Esme she sounds like my dd1. She's away so I haven't asked her but I can guarantee it would be go to Toby carvery or get a Chinese takeaway.
I've got a gammon joint (her favourite) and a bottle of Fanta (we don't usually get it) so we can have a celebration at home if she wants that as an option, or we can do either of the above if she chooses, or if she's done not as well as she wants she can have a nice commiseration meal in the comfort of home.

I was thinking how nice it would be to go to sleep last night and wake up on Friday with all the worry gone. Grin

I don't think I'll sleep well tonight, and I'm not feeling too brilliant. I blame the stress. Grin

Dh is a governor, and he usually gets a report on the results (as in general- various statistics, not individual reports) and I was hoping he'd get it early so I could prepare her if things look as though as a year group they've done badly. unfortunately he says he doesn't get it until they've given out the results to pupils, which is fair enough really.

GissASquizz · 23/08/2017 13:33

Just want to get the results now. DS is on tenterhooks and I want it over for him. Huge pressure on them now.

Witchend · 23/08/2017 13:37

Are you an English teacher Tara?

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 14:00

Does anyone know how much you have to pay for a remark? I don't know how much money to take?

Witchend · 23/08/2017 14:06

JufusMum it depends on the type of remark and the exam/exam board, from what I remember.
So you can have just a count the marks remark through to a full remark of all questions. I think the top price for any was about £30-40.

You do have a few days to decide, certainly into term time so don't need to take money with you.
Last year we challenged one (successfully) and dd arranged it herself at school over a few days, I'd say you have until at least the end of the first week in September, but do check.

tara unless you are a HT or data manager you shouldn't know that? (And even then, not yet, I thought...?) Confused!

JufusMum · 23/08/2017 14:19

Thank you Witchend.
