Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

Frith: keeping my fingers crossed for you, I really hope you're son does well. I coached my nephew for English Lit (year 10 when he sat it). I'll feel like I've let him down if he doesn't do well. Re: student room, I can't look on there anymore, I'm convinced only high achievers go on there!

s4rah19 · 22/08/2017 15:13

Your not you're (so nervous, I can't even use the correct grammar - obviously didn't make such mistakes coaching nephew Blush

Danglingmod · 22/08/2017 15:17

This might sound very bitchy, but on the odd occasion I've looked on The Student Room, the posters don't seem very articulate. They might have high target grades and be very studious, but many of them don't write very well.

I'm hoping this is a good sign for ds's English results (he writes beautifully - not making any comment on content!) Blush

isaulte · 22/08/2017 15:25

Just joining in for the support!

DS has banned me from talking about results as allegedly I am being "negative" for asking about a backup plan.

However, i am being allowed to accompany him to school on Thursday because he wants a lift to the station straight afterwards to go to a festival Grin

cardy1969 · 22/08/2017 15:32

Very nervous here. DD refuses to talk about it until she has to. She's going straight from getting her results to Leeds Festival. Not sure what I'm most nervous about!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/08/2017 15:37

We now have a plan B- I'll wait in the car park, ds will go in and get results then he will text me and he'll either celebrate or I'll be in the car with hugs and sympathy!

Wasn't quite what I meant when I suggested discussing a plan B with ds GrinHmm

I created my own mark scheme from DS' comments after this year's mocks and final exams:

"It went really, really well": D or U grade

"It was really hard, there's no way I have passed" : B

"Fine": Phone school to check if he turned up

The first two are based on real life facts.

Eusebius · 22/08/2017 16:04

Tiggy- I think there should be a new forum set up called, 'TheRealStudentRoom'.

CiderwithBuda · 22/08/2017 16:11

Never heard of the Student Room Site. Don't think I'll be checking it out!

Cafeconleche · 22/08/2017 16:11

Marking my spot here (nerves shredded). I had a nightmare dream last night about Thursday where I went into school with DS to collect his results (not happening in RL - I'll be waiting in a cafe nearby, phone in hand) and his teacher kept disappearing through different doors before we could reach her. When we finally caught up with her - after a 2 hour chase - I woke up before he opened his envelope Confused. Is it too early for a glass of Wine?

Lauralou69 · 22/08/2017 16:13

Why do we put them through this bullshit??? My ds is terrified......thinks all his life is reliant on these results.....
..its ridiculous!!

MsHarry · 22/08/2017 16:18

My DD is at work today and tomorrow so she will be busy and occupied. I'm not nervous at all. , if things go wrong, you reevaluate, it's not the end of the world.

Chocolatecake12 · 22/08/2017 16:21

DS only has one to collect this year (yr10) and I'm nervous for him. Goodness what I'll be like next year.
Good luck to all of your dcs on Thursday.

booellesmum · 22/08/2017 16:29

Cardy1969 -
My DD is off to Leeds too.
We don't even get to go for the celebratory/commiseration meal.

Witchend · 22/08/2017 17:33

tiggytape dd1 has done that (using the student room) with maths. I think it makes it worse. Because then you're not pleased to have got the result you wanted, but you miscalculate or think you've done better at a bit than you have at answering some of the questions and you can be devastated. I'm glad for that reason they haven't released grade boundaries.

Dd1 was asked if she would do training to help people through clearing on there. She was rather put out to find me and dh both laughed.

cardy1969 · 22/08/2017 18:18

Booellesmum, how to feel about your DD going to Leeds? I'm feeling a bit panicky Shock

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/08/2017 18:23

DT2 has chest pains today and I'm pretty sure it's linked to Worrying about Thursday.
She had a similar thing about 18 months ago when she was having a stressful time in year 10. Extensive hospital tests at the time and all fine but shes convinced its her heart this time ..... she's not usually a dramatic sort.

booellesmum · 22/08/2017 18:45

Cardy1969-
She went last year and no problems. She is lucky as her best friend and her parents go as well. She will go all 3 days but they drive home every night and stay at friends house so no camping.
It was fine last year though - they do go off without the parents and DD said when it got a bit packed during one set she was held up by the guy next to her and his girlfriend. She said friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't worry - she'll be fine and have a great time.

booellesmum · 22/08/2017 18:48

BigSandyBalls2015 -
Hope she's ok once Thursday is out of the way. The pressure from school is awful.

s4rah19 · 22/08/2017 19:24

I think what makes it worse is the unknown, all the negative press stories (or is it just been googling GCSE in news too much!)

cardy1969 · 22/08/2017 19:49

Booellesmum, thanks that's reassuring but no parents going 😧. I'm just feeling really irresponsible by letting her go. We're about an hour away.

AMilkyBrew · 22/08/2017 20:09

Checking in ready for Thursday...DD seems remarkably laid back about it. Don't know if that's a good thing Hmm.
Really hope she gets the results she needs for 6th form as there is no Plan B Shock.

Frith1975 · 22/08/2017 20:44

Have organised quite a bit Weds/thurs so we (I!) don't dwell on it.

Tomorrow - dentist, our usual post dentist cooked breakfast in cafe then off to NT place then watching Cars 3.

Thursday - getting results at 9 then going to family member's birthday lunch/water park thing.

It sounds easy writing it down!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/08/2017 21:11

Thanks boo.
Cardy loads of teens are off to Leeds and Reading after their GCSE results, she'll be fine. It's more that age group than any other with lots of security.
