It's a boarding school so I think lots don't go in. I just st wondered if there was a national exam board set system.

ProfessorLayton1 · 24/08/2017 13:43

Super..Jesse
Well done to you and your kids..
May I take this opportunity to thank all the teachers here for their hard work and dedication...I am really touched with how much care you show for the children you teach! one of the teacher did not sleep last night at Dds school..

Dunlurking · 24/08/2017 13:57

Seconding ProfLayton. Well done Jesse and all our dcs' teachers, especially while working in such adverse conditions (I'm looking at you Gove Angry)

JumpingJoey · 24/08/2017 14:00

If it was just to raise a grade then I'm not sure. But if it was the difference between a pass and a d then yes. I would.

Jessesbitch · 24/08/2017 14:04

Thanks. If I'm honest I had to take a sleeping tablet last night!

LittleHo · 24/08/2017 14:05

Flowers for you Jesses. You deserve them!

Well done to the teenagers in your class.

Jessesbitch · 24/08/2017 14:12

Just noticed my spelling error! My excuse lack of sleep... GinSmile

BringOnTheScience · 24/08/2017 14:21

Jesse That's brilliant! Well done you for inspiring and motivating them. Flowers

Mixed news here.

Good news is that dd got AA in dual Science and and A in IGCSE Maths Smile She's always been stronger in arts than sciences and really put the effort into her weaker subjects which paid off.

The bad news is she didn't get As in her A Level subjects which she needed to secure a scholarship at her new school. She got a B in History, 7 in Eng Lang and a 6 in Eng Lit which was a big shock as she got 8s in the Mocks Sad

She's even starting to doubt doing A Level History now and thinks maybe she's not that good at it Sad

We might go for a remark but she's 6 marks off an A in History so not much chance of it going up.

I've told her we're really proud of her but just don't know what to say, it's bittersweet.

merlottime · 24/08/2017 14:26

I am so proud of my DS. Back in year 4 he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia (2nd percentile for reading), so we moved him into a specialist school from Yr 5. He has managed to get a 6 in English Language, and a 4 in Lit!!!! We are over the moon. Plus a Distinction in Btec sport, Bs in Maths (IGCSE), IT, core science, Art, C in Additional Science, D in History. Looking forward to sixth form college now for a Btec L3 Ext Diploma.

I thought Edexcel said that they would give raw marks this year although they never used to, but clearly not.

It's probably to reduce the number of remarks.
Teachers will have access to maths (and all other) papers for Edexcel so you can ask them to look over the paper before asking for a remark.

Thrilled for dd she's scored enough for the excellence programme at college which was her aim and got an A* in her favourite subject despite misreading the 16 mark question.

LineysRun · 24/08/2017 15:27

And so OH's daughter got a D in (foundation) maths for the fourth time. So now she moves on to the new spec presumably.

Is there really no other way for university entry??

LIZS · 24/08/2017 15:33

Lineys how old is she now? Maybe an Access course if 19+ , perhaps including functional skills , would be a way forward. However she may need to accept that uni is a step too far and look at alternative routes into her chosen job.

SpiralArchitect · 24/08/2017 15:41

Has anyone else had a completely rogue result?

DD was predicted 9 in Eng Language, has never got below a 7 in class or exams, but only has a 5 (OCR; breakdown of marks not given to us, though the teacher is going through them).

She has done really well in all the rest of the exams - 9 in Lit, 8 in maths, 5 A*, 1 A and 1 B - and has been accepted to stay on at her school despite needing a 6 in Language for all 3 of her A level choices.

We are almost certainly going to ask for a re-mark, but are just a bit Confused at this one mark (as are school).

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 15:46

My dn has just called me distraught as she's got results for subjects she hasn't sat and results missing for the subjects she has and the results she has are not what she was expecting

She's tried to speak to school and they're not being helpful just saying they'll look into it in sept but she's waiting to enrol at college and the course is results dependant

What a mess any advice?

LineysRun · 24/08/2017 15:46

Hi LIZS. She's 18, doing BTEC level 3 diploma in health & social care with a career path. But she really wanted to do a nursing degree.

She's passed other GCSEs (including English), BTECs level 2, training courses, vocational courses, you name it. She'll pass her level 3.

It's just that damn Maths.

She'll give it one more go.

cricketballs · 24/08/2017 15:48

Apologies if this has been asked, but our results paper doesn't give raw marks for Maths (Edexcel higher papers) or either of the Englishes; but a exam by exam for all the other GCSEs. Any idea why that might be?

It was the same for the A Level results - new specs just giving the grades whilst old specs showing the break down or papers/UMS marks

The exam officer will have access to them and will have sent this info to the HoD who will be looking through them carefully as we speak. Remarks are different now, only if there is a math error (in terms of counting the marks) or if there was something seriously wrong, i.e. page not marked will any changes happen. But there is hope we had a A2 English paper remarked and it went up by 11 UMS as a answer sheet had not been marked

LIZS · 24/08/2017 15:49

Dd had 2 rogue papers which took an otherwise A* down into A . However our past experience with ds has shown remarks rarely produce much change. It only takes a misread of the question or digression from topic to lose a lot of marks. Remarks are largely a clerical check to see that all pages were marked and marks totted up correctly, not a full reread and reassessment.

Madhairday · 24/08/2017 15:53

Spiral - that happened to DD with RE. Predicted A*, got that in mocks, but got a C. She got 5 marks off a B between both papers so exam officer suggested we send them for remarks. But it's very odd and she's a bit tired about that one. She did really well in all the others and better than expected in some. Seems a few others in the class for the same anomaly.

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 15:56

Nicpem I'd go to the school and refuse to leave till your DD has the correct results. How outrageous that they would expect her to wait till September!
