Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

Thanks LIZS - something to think about for sure. It's really put a downer on an otherwise good set of results for her. I will wait and see what her English teacher says about the mark breakdown.

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 15:58

Noble - She's my dn

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 15:59

Noble - her mom has been to the school and they've said there's no one available to see her and fully investigate it

She's been advised to put concerns in an email

SpiralArchitect · 24/08/2017 16:00

X-post Madhairday

Yes, a few people got 4 in Eng Lang in DDs class, so there were quite a few lower than expected grades, given that she's at a good grammar school and there are no issues with the teaching...

ifonly4 · 24/08/2017 16:08

Nicpem - that isn't good enough. Not sure if all schools will be available tomorrow, but DDs school is open a couple of hours tomorrow for any follow up required.

I'd email the HT and Exams Officer now, and phone tomorrow.

Danglingmod · 24/08/2017 16:10

That's totally not good enough! She can't gave grades for exams she didn't sit - maybe she has a peer in the cohort with a v similar name (and coincidentally v similar exam ID)?

Surely not providing a child with results on time is an Ofsted issue.

I used to work for an awarding body, and not providing students with timely, correct results attracted a huge ofqual fine.

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 16:13

I'll ring her mom and have a chat ideally I could do with checking the paperwork myself the advising them

She's in a state at the min and her mom god love her isn't good at stuff like this it tends to fall to me

Madhairday · 24/08/2017 16:16

That's awful nicpen, so unacceptable!

I think my DD wins the prize for scatty idiocy. She's managed to lose her marks slip already, on the way to see me in hospital Hmm she is dyspraxic, but aaagh! Told her to ring school immediately to grovel for a replacement to show her sixth form college next week. Do hope she can get one and they're not all closed down. Honestly. This girl.

TractorTedTed · 24/08/2017 16:17

Nicpem that is horrific. Definitely phone the school, email the head, email the exams officer, anyone to get a response!

I seriously cannot believe any school could be that uncaring! Most bend over backwards to help students, console those who are disappointed and give advice on Sixth form etc.

Your poor neice.

SpiralArchitect · 24/08/2017 16:26

Draylon that must be it!! Well done to your DS.

It isn't affecting her sixth form despite "needing" a 6 - she's staying on, they all know she's capable of much more and according to the deputy head, several teachers saw the result and went "Well, that's just wrong!"

Nicpem I hope your DN's results get sorted out quickly - it's bloody stressful enough without major cock-ups like that!

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 16:34

So I have now had pics of the results sent to me

And she has results for 4 subjects that she's never sat (I attended her parents evenings) film studies, hospitality, child development and German

I'm now going to email the head and ask what the heck is going on

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/08/2017 16:40

Nicpem it sounds as though she has somebody else's results!

Somewhere there's somebody looking for their results in those subjects!

I'm disgusted that the school are saying no-one's available to look at it. At DS2's school staff were in all day today & are in again tomorrow.

Nicpem1982 · 24/08/2017 16:44

I think so too

I'll call them in the morning to follow up my email.

Madhairday · 24/08/2017 16:59

That's absolutely shocking. Poor poor girl, to still not know how she's done, and obviously someone else too! Angry I'd be getting very very angry at the school.

Decorhate · 24/08/2017 17:07

How can you tell from the UMS mark on the results sheet how close they are to the grade boundary? The grade boundary data seems to be for raw marks?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/08/2017 17:11

Well, I was going to look up grade boundaries out of curiosity mostly, but also to ponder whether to get any remarks/reviews requested.

Her results come from WJEC. None of the element codes match up with any of the course codes in the drop down boxes on their website! So no way of checking the grade boundaries here. Wonder if that's my error, or their way of dodging remarks! (Joking - partly.)

NotAgainYoda · 24/08/2017 17:14

noble and anyone else who knows about Maths and Physics

Sorry. Don't want to hijack this thread but I could do with a little advice. Started thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3015071-Wobble-about-doing-A-level-Maths-but-wants-to-do-Physics

Thank you

Furball · 24/08/2017 17:39

noblegiraffe - thank you for explaining Smile

I assume that they are gearing away from re marking as you won't know unless you ask the school your actual. Which will probably save them work, but you could be 'hard done by' if the paper has been incorrectly marked.

booellesmum · 24/08/2017 18:00

Decorhate -
With great difficulty and much googling.
If you Google the exam board and ums conversion gcse 2017 you can find the exam website and download a table to help.

Dancergirl · 24/08/2017 18:01

A question about remarks - is it always worth doing?

Dd got a B in History and is 6 marks off an A. The teacher says it's unlikely she'll go up to an A but is it worth a try anyway?

LIZS · 24/08/2017 18:06

6 marks seems a lot to find. We're considering one for 2 marks on English Lit. but ime you rarely find more.

Dancergirl · 24/08/2017 18:09

Thank you Lizs We are also doing a remark for one of the English papers but that was also only 2 marks off.

Dd is worrying now that she's not 'good' at History and is doubting it as a choice of A level subject.

It's just ironic that my English/Humanities dd did best in Maths and Science!

We haven't spoken to her new school yet to see if she will still qualify for the scholarship, will speak to them tomorrow.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 24/08/2017 18:23

nicpem That is bloody awful. We try to encourage students to open their envelopes straight away so we can talk them through any issues - I was in til half twelve today and the deputy was staying til 3. Email may be best as sometimes the phone systems aren't fully working in holidays, but if there is someone on the premises they should be able to contact Head or Deputy.
