Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

2A*, 8A and 1B. Two going in for remarks as both one point off the higher grade. Very happy and relieved!!!

PeskyRat · 24/08/2017 12:24

I've just realised that DS has bought home no actual certificates, just a printed sheet with the results. I've just asked him where his certifcates are, his reply was "what certificates?" Shock Will they come through the post? Anybody the same?

booellesmum · 24/08/2017 12:25

Elendon -
We went back to speak to school. Paper 2 let her down. 3 ums/4 raw marks off A* but would need to lose 18 marks to drop to a B so she felt it worth the risk.
Definitely advise speaking to school and looking at raw marks.
Good luck.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 12:26

Ds just has a printed sheet too, only certificate was music.

How do other schools manage remarks? Ours has chosen to put everything that is 6 points or fewer off the next higher grade in for a remark and they are paying for it. Personally I wouldn't have opted to have DD1's History and RE remarked because she has easily enough to make her chosen A-levels, but the school are driving this. She's only 1 mark off in both so it would be good if they ended up higher (and they are unlikely to go lower so at least there is that).

Dunlurking · 24/08/2017 12:27

I'm wondering whether to email head about English results. Dd got 2x 5s, but was predicted 7-s by a teacher who didn't know her. We knew the predictions were rubbish. She was in one of the 2 top sets of a grammar school. They had a teacher off sick most of the autumn term year 1, and a succession of supply teachers thereafter. The head was contacted frequently to sort something out. Dd thinks most of the set got 5s and 6s. She has mild dyslexia and is happy with these, but I'm disappointed for her friends, some of whom were hoping for Oxbridge or Medicine. Anyone feel it's worth emailing the school to state our displeasure (mostly to give solidarity to the more upset parents)?

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 12:27

Certificates aren't issued yet because of remarks and so on. Schools normally have a presentation ceremony in the Autumn to give them out.

PeskyRat · 24/08/2017 12:28

Thank you tiggytape, mini panic over Blush

Scabetty · 24/08/2017 12:29

Dds grades pretty much as expectec apart from a 9 in English Language and a B in Drama (predicted A). Over the bloody moon!!

PeskyRat · 24/08/2017 12:29

Makes perfect sense noblegiraffe, thank you.

GCSE - 8A*, 1A, 1B
AS - A

(As included 9, 8, 8 for English & maths, we're getting a remark on the GCSE A (biology she got A/A/B/A but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme)

pointythings · 24/08/2017 12:34

tiggy that makes sense - and since the schools know the grade boundaries, they should be able to judge what the mark range for a remark should be to minimise the risk of a lower grade. Personally I'm happy with what we've got but with 1 mark off for both we don't have a lot to lose.

ProfessorLayton1 · 24/08/2017 12:43

Would you ask for a remark 3 marks away?

9 is 123 and above
8 is 113 and above and my DD got 120.

In the Euphoria, I have agreed to remark- should we withdraw?
That's AQA English language by the way...

Elendon · 24/08/2017 12:55

Thanks booellesmum. Similar situation here. Will do that later.

Justchillaxing · 24/08/2017 12:55

Where do we find the grade boundaries for Wales? Link above not working.

ProfessorLayton1 · 24/08/2017 12:59

Which board - is it WJEC?

AlexanderHamilton · 24/08/2017 13:17

Can I ask a question for next year?

If you can't go into school to pick up results in person how do you usually get them? Is there a central system to log onto or does it depend on what individual schools choose to put in place e.g. Emailing them or posting them?

mabelchiltern · 24/08/2017 13:20

Yay! DD got what she needed to do A levels at grammar school! So chuffed for her! 🌺

Azure · 24/08/2017 13:22

AlexanderHamilton - it depends on the school. A friend is away and her DS's results will be posted, so he won't know them until they get home.

2 As, 2 As, 2 Bs plus 26s and a 5 here. Have asked school for a mark breakdown for the two Englishs as are below expectation. All fine for A level subjects at school, so that's a relief.

ProfessorLayton1 · 24/08/2017 13:24

You can ring the school
Some of the children in Dds school are on holiday and that's what they did

Can I have a proud face too please. Not a parent but a teacher of a bottom set. There all got above a C Grin . One with two grades above her baseline banding. Oh and one got an A! I'm so proud as they worked so hard. (Science)

Frith1975 · 24/08/2017 13:36

Son was 2 marks below a C in one history paper and 3 marks below in the other. Is it worth getting them re-marked? Is the cost prohibitive?
