Hard to belive that I was here 5 years ago sweating it out for the results of his secondary school offer!

Only a few days now bwfore the GCSE results come out. DS is starting to get nervous....as am I!

Mountain I've waited 40 min in the car park. They get advice on their options on the spot.

Mountainviewloo · 24/08/2017 10:36

I know he hasn't got them yet; he's texted to say he's still waiting

ifonly4 · 24/08/2017 10:37

Still waiting here as well.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 24/08/2017 10:38

Well done to all those who got good results, and commiserations to those DC who aren't happy.

My DD is one of those not happy , in fact she's broken hearted Sad She got a 3 for English, which she feels is the same as the D she got last year, despite her lecturer telling her it's not as it's all exam based this year. She has ASD and over the past few years she's had serious health issues resulting in a lot of hospital stays. When she started college 4 years ago she had to drop from the A level course she had enrolled (and was accepted) on to do what she was capable of at that time - basic life skills e.g. Pottery, cooking and gardening. She's worked her way back up and is now starting a foundation degree next month, so I mighty proud of her, yet all she sees is that she doesn't have her C in English. College are being fab and have already sorted a plan for her, but she's currently sobbing in her bedroom Sad

Witchend · 24/08/2017 10:40

Been waiting 40 minutes for her to return. Judging by the screams coming from inside the grounds, the head us torturing all who don't measure up.

Am tempted to phone and say if she doesn't return soon I'll strip naked and come in and find her.

But the longer she's in, the more likely she's happy as she'd have been straight out and tucking herself away if it was bad.

Madhairday · 24/08/2017 10:40

This is agonising!

Notanothergiraffe · 24/08/2017 10:43

Fleur similar here.

DS is very disappointed. He has 6 in maths, 4s in English, 3 Bs, 2 Cs and 1 D. In most subjects he was a grade lower than he wanted ☹️

His results are not good enough to do A levels at his preferred sixth form. We have a meeting later to discuss BTEC science as an option. We hadn't considered BTEC before but it seems like it may be the best option to do BTEC at a great sixth form rather than A levels at a mediocre one. Confused

Here the BTEC science is equivalent to 3 A levels. The business one can be equivalent to 2 or 3 A levels depending on how many units.

Mountainviewloo · 24/08/2017 10:44

God if it's like this with him I dread to think what it will be like waiting for my own DS.

pointythings · 24/08/2017 10:46

DD got 3 8s, 2 Bs which were 1 mark of being As so those are going for remarking and the rest As. We are incredibly proud, she can now do her first choice A levels and enjoy the res of her holidays. Congratulations to all those who got what they wanted, commiserations to those who didn't. Flowers

Gnome134 · 24/08/2017 10:50

A* in photography, B in chemistry, biology, physics, C graphics, German, geography and PE, 5 maths, 5 English language, 4 English literature. Enough for sixth form college he wants, not sure whether to do the exact courses he wants. I'm pleased he's passed, relieved he got 5 in maths! Congratulations to everyone with their results, some of your sixth form entry requirements are very high.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 24/08/2017 10:53

Well, he hasn't got enough grades to do his course but his enrolment is today so we will still go (as the letter says) and see what he needs to do next.

The numbers system is very messed up !

t875 · 24/08/2017 10:54

Yay!! Sooo proud!! Passed everything B food tech! Could only get C in maths and science as we were foundation!! Level 3 for her college course in sept!! X

RaskolnikovsGarret · 24/08/2017 10:55

Thanks Lonerica, it's a grammar school, and 50% of the pupils got 9s in English. Most of DD's friends got 2 or 3 9s overall, plus nearly all A stars. DD works like crazy, so I am pleased for her.

tapdancingmum · 24/08/2017 11:00

Well she has passed all of them except PE but they are talking about a remark. Not enough for her to do Sociology or Psychology so she has to change her A level choices but she got in. A few tears but has now gone to Costa with her boyfriend Smile

Goingtobeawesome · 24/08/2017 11:00

I hate this number thing. I didn't understand what they meant so missed the moment of how well he'd done. Why did they have to change them, there's no need.

He didn't drown!

Well done to everyone.

I waited in the car as per his choice. Dh wasn't allowed to open his results alone and my carers didn't care, so we were certain DS had his choice. People who went in after him came out first so I was getting worried. TV crew was there too. A woman yelled out the two lads she was with both had nines. Another boy said not good when someone asked him how he'd done.

One hasn't done as well as expected so can't so the A level he wants Sad.

DS got 2 A, 9 As and a B and he's asked for two to be remarked and if it goes how he thinks it should it would be three A and 10 As.

Furball · 24/08/2017 11:00

With the exam boundaries for maths and english - how do you know anything as they only give you your grade and not a break down like the other subjects? So knowing the information doesn't mean anything other than you must have got between this and that?

Mountainviewloo · 24/08/2017 11:01

Thank fuck he's done well

1 9,1 7, 1 6. 2 A*s and the rest Bs

Hulababy · 24/08/2017 11:02

ConfusionIsNothingNew - congratulations to your DH. Such a big thing to do to go back and resit exams as an adult. Well done to him. And a great message to those who haven't got what they need, once the emotions settle a little - in time things work out one way or the other.

Well done to all those children (and adults) getting grades today.

And so sad for those children being made to feel failures yet coming away with a handful of GOOD grades. Grades Bs and Cs are GOOD grades for the majority of children, and something to be proud of.

It's not fair that many children are being made to feel they've failed, when they have, in actual fact, done so well and at such relatively young ages - because lets face it 16 is NOT that old really in the scheme of things, especially with regards to maturity.

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 11:02

Furball AQA have decided not to give marks for some reason, but the school will have them so if you want to know what the actual score was, you'll need to ask the school.

aayla · 24/08/2017 11:02

My ds got a 9 in maths; he's in a secondary school.
He's very happy. Very proud of him.

Goingtobeawesome · 24/08/2017 11:03

boopsy DS told me you get your money back for the remark if it was wrong.

Hulababy · 24/08/2017 11:04

And I think many children seem to be equating a 9 to an old A* - when in fact it is the top end of that, and only for the very small minority of people who sat the exam.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/08/2017 11:05

DS2 is back. He looks really disappointed, although says he isn't.

He got an 8 in maths, which is excellent, but everything else was a C. (Level 5s for English).

He needs to have an appointment with the head of sixth form to see if they'll accept him still. Two of his A-Level subjects are maths & further maths, and as his maths is an 8, there's still hope.

unfortunateevents · 24/08/2017 11:08

Massive relief here! DS has exceeded all expectations. Got all As, with a 6 in Maths, 7 in Eng Lang and 8 in Eng Lit! We are thrilled, relieved, exhausted and in need of wine! Sadly have to drive him back to camp now so no wine for me! None of the number grades have a mark breakdown (Maths Edexcel and Eng AQA) but it's irrelevant as we are just so happy anyway. Commiserations to those who are unhappy, especially those who have done so well but not enough for some extremely high 6th form offers :-(

ifonly4 · 24/08/2017 11:11

Anyone else still waiting?
