Little bit of revision between year 8 and 9

DD is just going into year 9 (independent school). She didn't do very well in her Latin, Science or Maths end of year exams and there is talk that she may be moved from middle to bottom set.

Personal organisation is a problem, however does anyone have recommendations of a couple of specific work books or websites that are relevant to this level? Most things that I have seen are either KS3 or GCSE level so I didn't think were quite right

Surely KS3 is exactly right?
There isn't anything in-between KS3 and GCSE.

KS3 covers school years 7 to 9 (approx) and GCSE school years 10 & 11.
Although many pupils will start GCSE courses at some point in Y9 as the new GCSEs have more content so more time is needed to cover the course.
A quick look on amazon found these workbooks for Y8 www.amazon.co.uk/Science-Year-Workbook-Collins-Revision/dp/0007562748?tag=mumsnetforum-21. What I can't guarantee though is that your child's school is following this curriculum. But if your dd find these books easy, that probably means that despite the "may move to bottom set" discussion, she is at or above the expected standard for her age.

You also need to understand whether she did poorly in the exams due to:
Science/Maths

  • not revising (didn't put the time in)
  • not revising effectively (put the time in but failed to learn it)
  • not understanding enough to answer the questions
  • not reading questions carefully enough
  • silly mistakes
Latin
  • vocab
  • grammar
  • accuracy in translating
  • something else that I can't think of

Depending on the reasons you would tackle things differently.
