Hi all,
We moved to UK about 7 months ago. My son is in Y8 at Townsend School and has now been offered a place in Verulam School starting Y-9. Please let me know what you think of Verulam school and if I should accept this move.
Thanks,
Nandini

^ I don't know much about your sons current school, but I've heard very good things about Verulam in that they get great grades at GCSE. If your son is unhappy with his current school, perhaps it would be a good move. I'm not much help as I don't know your current situation. Good luck

Verulam is better than Towns End, but it isn't amazing. It depends on what are your son's interests? It is good for sport and sciences, weaker for music and arts.

My daughter went to Townsend and the excellent pastoral care at the time suited her perfectly. I don't know if they've had staff changes since, but I was very impressed with their care.

For my son, slightly more academic and definitely more confident I would have preferred Verulam.

I think a lot depends on the nature of the child although I think Verulam would be better for more scientific based subjects. Sorry, not to be of great help. Verulam slightly more academic. Townsend excellent for pastoral needs and ethics.

I agree with happy. Verulam is a good school if your son is already confident - it is a "lads" school for rough and tumble boys who want to do well. This is why my youngest son didn't follow his brother there. It wasn't the right place for him.

Thanks for your feedback happy and justadad. My DS is very soft hearted but has learnt to let harshness roll down his back. He has a scientific bent of mind and was not challenged at all at Townsend. Having said that his teachers have been really kind and wonderful and helped him feel at home.
