Holland Park School - Banding Advice Request

Hello - hope someone can advise. My son has been offered a place at Holland Park School to start this September. Just wondered whether anyone could give me their views on the school as my son will be transferring from a private prep school so I'm a little concerned. He has been banded as 'C' and I haven't a clue what that means so if anyone can help me I'd hugely appreciate it!!! Thank you!

Hello! You'll get all kinds of mixed reviews about HP. My daughter is in yr 7. Their banding system is based on the banding test which your son will have taken last November. They are divided into 4 bands from A-D based on the results of the test with A being highest marks and D being lowest marks. Movement between the bands does happen as they are tested 4 times a year. I have a friend whose son was band C because he fluffed the banding test but now he has been moved to band B. As far as I know, in bands A & B the lessons and homework are exactly the same except for band A doing Latin as well. I suspect that bands C & D also have to cover the same work as quarterly tests are the same for all.

My daughter is very happy there. Lots of after school clubs. Not much sport though.
