Going into Year 11 - need to get organised

My lovely but disorganised son is about to go into Year 11. He needs to organise his school stuff (at the moment in piles on bedroom floor). Anyone found a storage system/set of files which might help my reluctant worker find his stuff? All ideas really welcome.

I'm another in need to help/advice.

DD going into Y11 in September and her desk is so full with crap that she can't find the space to work at it. We also need to work on her personal organisational skills!

I cleared a couple of shelves downstairs, collected up all the magazine files in the house, and put them on the shelves so ds had one file per subject - wide enough to fit in a textbook, exercise book, revision/workbook as necessary, etc.

One thing that has helped my DDs is to have a 'rough book'. Just a ring bound A4 notebook, but all their practice work goes in there (eg French spellings, essay plans, maths tuition with me, etc.). It helps keep the random bits of paper down to a minimum.

Thank you for some good ideas - like the rough book - he has far too much random paper (in random places)

My DC have found the kallax shelf from IKEA helpful. It can be used tall or wide. They have each cube marked for a subject. all notes, folders, books, revision guides etc go in the right pigeon hole, history for example.
It's quick for me or them to chuck stuff in the right place. I help because they have dyslexia and organisational issues.

I use a very large plastic container. Ds is not the keep everything in order type person, so a filing system is never going to be keep for longer than 2 or 3 days - so dumping everything in a large container works - it's all in the one place, he knows where it is, it all fits in and it was very cheap. DD uses the same approach but she has a massive drawer.

"Going into Year 11 - need to get organised" -

Fuck, yeah!

My DS going into Y10. Dis-organised, yes!!! I have to work round it by providing him with a huge book case, and the right resources. Don't fight, just spoon-feed them. It saves times, and let them get on with their work.
