Hot weather and tights and school uniform

Is my child's school the only school that insists on tights as school uniform even when it's over 25 degrees?

The school ds goes to the girls have to wear tights all year round.

Ds is allowed knee length socks.

Dd iscallowed knee length socks at her school.

DDs all girl indy allows socks all year round, navy in winter and white ankle in summer. An awful lot of the girls wear them too - mostly trainer sock.
Blazers are uniform all-year round, and permission has to be given in each class to remove them, but DD has never complained of it being an issue. TBH she carries so much stuff in her blazer pockets it's a real pain on mufti days trying to find safe places to put it all, so she finds it useful to have all the time any way.

They have different levels of permitted uniform when it gets excessively hot - like blazers can be removed, ties don't have to be worn. Despite the thermometer reaching the 30 degress last summer, they never reached a level where no tights were permitted. After writing this post though, I've found out they are changing it this year. The girls do mostly wish to wear tights but in these temperatures they desperately want to be allowed to wear socks.

They can wear ankle socks at dd's school. Dd insists on wearing cycling shorts under her skirt with them unfortunately

BringOnTheScience · 19/06/2017 22:35

Opaque black tights are compulsory at my DC's school for any girl in a skirt. They're also fixated on checking that black socks with trousers are not too short - we had an email from the Head stating that socks and trousers must meet.

You'd think they'd be more concerned with the declining results than the chance that an ankle might be glimpsed!

if is hot make girls wear socks if it is not hot make girls wear tights

cbeebies2 · 21/11/2020 20:49

when it cold i think all pupils should wear trousers not skirts or dresses unless the girls are wearing tights

@ASauvingnonADay

Ours can wear whatever they like under skirts! (Academy!)

No blazers on hot days either.

Oh yes lol

For younger girls, socks are much more economical than tights. Skinned knees grow back; tights stay ruined. At my secondary school, we would wear knee socks as long as possible into the winter to show how tough we are.

Zombie thread!! Lucky some days to be above 25F this week, never mind 25C.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2022 14:01

As DD left her Private Secondary last year this rule was coming in. There was a trousers option too
