Spanish GCSE foundation

Hi

My son is now doing the foundation course ( I think - just waiting to speak to the school for clarification). He is sitting his GCSE next year.

He just got 62% in his end of term Foundation level exam. In the 60s for reading and writing, 50s for speaking and 70s for listening. Is that equivalent to a 4? I don't really understand how it works, to be honest!

If he's only going to scrape a 4 it may be better that he drops the subject. He's doing 9 GCSEs in total - English language & literature, maths, combined Science, History, Geography, Spanish and PE. He is struggling across the board.

Any thoughts would be helpful - thanks!

Hi Rosie - If it's of any help I can highly recommend the Duolingo phone app. It's free and just 5 mins a day can make a big difference in vocabulary and confidence. Best of luck with your DS. Mine's in Yr 11 and is about to finish his GCSEs. It's felt like a long, hard slog (especially with the new English and maths 9-1 exams this year - I don't envy you will all new specs Flowers) and I had stress levels through the roof this time last year. But my DS has come on leaps and bounds over the last 12 months. I can really recommend doing little bits of revison over the summer hols, such as learning some of the English lit quotes (I had them stuck on the wall by the loo Grin) or watching science videos by Primrose Kitten. There is soooooo much for them to take in. If you can embed some of it now, it will really help in the long run (well, it seems to have for my DS - we'll find out on results day...) It would also be worth having a meeting with his Spanish teacher before the end of term. Again, there may be stuff your DS can do over the summer. It may also be that he's doing fine for this stage in the game.
