Options media & photography

My dd 13 has changed her mind about what options to take in year 10

She has now chosen media and photography, not sure why as the only thing she photographs is herself!

Can any one advise... What is the work load like for these two subjects taken together?

I assume they are in addition to academic subjects? Workload for photography can be quite high and if she's on a steep learning curve it will need some practice. However schools usually sort out shoots to cover the syllabus. Media studies is fairly lightweight.

Yes it's with 7 GCSEs
I've heard photography can be quite time consuming, didn't know anything about media though

DD is doing photography. As well as composition, lighting etc there's all the technical stuff like editing and working the sodding camera! It's not just arty, it's quite technical

Dd has done photography this year. Her teacher told her it was technicallly possible to do it in one year but she's done it over two (extra curricular).

The workload is managable unless you leave everything to the last minute-. Remind your DD to do mindmaps/artistic influences/planning in her book along the way. Back up everything so there's no danger of lost work.

The examiners like to see progression so it's not just about final images. They like to see the workings too. The exam project was several days work plus 10hrs (over 2 days) putting it together.
