Good sixth forms near Bristol

We're thinking of moving out of London and are looking at areas around Bristol. If we move it'd be in a couple of years time when dd would be going into sixth form. She's academic and works hard - she's currently at a selective independent - and would want to go somewhere with a good academic track record. Can you suggest places we should put on our shortlist and then we can narrow down potential areas? Thanks

Bristol Grammar, Clifton College are both excellent. Further South in Taunton there are three good private schools. Richard Huish in Taunton is an excellent 6th Form College as is Huish Episcopi in Langport. Both are state and regularly get better results than equivalent indys. Another option is Sexeys in Bruton which is a boarding 6th form with excellent results.

Badmintons results are excellent

Thanks - happy to look at both state and private so any more suggestions welcome - would prefer nearer Bristol than Taunton as unless Taunton's changed a lot in the last few years it sourness my first choice of somewhere to live...

North Somerset. Lots of excellent state schools with sixth forms. Particularly Gordano, Backwell and Churchill. Close to city and countryside - best of all worlds. No need to go private in that part of the world.

Thanks - North Somerset looks very promising. Any opinions on which would be best for an aspiring vet who loves drama and horse riding?

Probably Backwell. Horse riding not a school activity although in y7 and 9 they can choose to go on a horseriding holiday. Other students will own/loan ponies (although likely in all North Somerset secondaries). Backwell strong on academics and performing arts (although other schools mentioned are also strong).

Thanks settled that's very helpful!

Independent - Bristol Grammar, Badminton or QEH is now taking girls in 6th form.
State - Redland Green, Colstons Girls, Cathedral School, Katharine Lady Berkeley (North of Bristol in Wotton Under Edge - but excellent A levels.

Oh and Katharine Lady Berkeley have a riding team - friends daughter goes there.

Depending on your religious leanings Sidcot (Quaker) North Somerset has an equestrian centre. Hayesfield (state girls school with mixed sixth form) in Bath gets good results and has enthusiastic drama faculty.

Chew Valley in BANES has an outstanding sixth form and great for performing Arts too.
