6th form boarding with film/media studies option

My son has started discussing 6th boarding as an option. We are willing to discuss it but he has got hooked on Hurtwood House which is well beyond our means! I'm struggling to find other boarding reasonably close to London which do media studies A'level which he is already doing for GCSE and desperately wants to continue. Any thoughts gratefully accepted. It doesn't seem to be very common at other London days schools either (he is currently at Arts Ed)

Maybe check Elstree UTC?

Davros · 15/05/2017 21:55

Forgot to say, they may not do Media Studies or boarding Blush but may be worth looking at

Looks perfect, think too far and transport links are awful, what a shame...

Rugby School offers Film and Media A level. Obviously boarding with fees that reflect that. Lots of pupils from London though!

Is your DS on the Dance or Drama pathway at Arts Ed? If he wants a vocational school with boarding, Tring Park list Media Studies and Film Studies as A level options, and they offer DaDAs for dance students in 6th form.

bojorojo · 16/05/2017 09:17

Tring is Arts Ed but in Tring!

TheatreTaxi · 16/05/2017 09:39

No, Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and Arts Educational Schools Chiswick are two completely separate schools (though I believe they were originally affiliated).

I assumed the OP's son is at Arts Ed Chiswick; the post refers to London day schools, and if he was at Tring Park he would already have the option of a boarding 6th form offering media/film studies.

SamW4 · 16/05/2017 14:38

Yes he is at Arts Ed in Chiswick, apparently Tring is not well regards by Chiswick kids for some reason! Davros has put we onto a search for UTCs which I didn't even know existed. There is a new one called Global Academy in Hayes which specialises in Media. Think I might have a happy son and no school fees, win win!

I'll be coming back to ask for an update on all this info in 2 years! Good luck Flowers

He does realise that Media Studies isn't going to lead to a career in the media, doesn't he? It's considered a really soft option.

Peter Symonds in Winchester is excellent state boarding. Excellent rail links to London. Always used to do film and media.

Accapella1 · 26/04/2018 22:44

Im wondering Sam4 if your child now attends Global Academy - my child has been offered a place for Sept and we are unsure whether they should travel over an hour to get there or go to Britt school which is closer but we don't think covers exactly what they want to do

MrsSnitch · 29/04/2018 12:39

Don't dismiss Hurtwood - I know that they will listen sympathetically to requests for discounts if they see the pupil is a good fit. You need to be up front about it but they often will make considerable effort to enable children to attend

oops see this is an old thread (facepalm)
