Independent Secondary schools

Hello,
I am looking for recommendations for independent secondary school for my son to do his Sixth Form. We are British citizens but have been away from the UK for 10 years now. We are looking to live in or around Richmond and ideally looking at schools in the borough of Richmond, Hammersmith etc. Not fussed about only boys or co ed schools. Will really appreciate your inputs! Just browsing on the internet seems very mind boggling.

Hello, my children are much younger but can I recommend that you get a copy of the Good Schools Guide for South London (and probably for North London as well - I think Hammersmith is north of the river)?

I should think that someone who lives in the area will be along to give more detailed advice but the school that comes to mind is St Paul's (in Barnes) - however, I am sure that there are loads of schools round there.

Plenty of options in the area. How academic is your son?

Shobi16 · 10/05/2017 14:57

Hello Keely79,

Thank you for your response. My son is a bright kid (if I may say so myself :)). He will be giving his Maths Gcse this year (a year ahead of his cohort). Maths and Physics seem to be his strong subjects. We have read about Radnor House, Collingham college, Latymer Upper school. Any reviews on these schools? Are they academically too aggressive?

Hello CruCru,

Yes, we have looked up the Good schools guide and now have a shortlist of schools. I will look up St Pauls. Thanks.

Hi very very selective sixth forms
Westminster, St Paul's i.e. Really top schools
Slightly less selective but still very selective. Hampton, Latymer Upper, Kingston Grammar,
Less selective again Radnor House, Kew House Halliford. These are all much smaller schools.
St Benedicts, and Emmanuel are also in striking distance.
Then there are the tutorial College like Ashbourne, Collingham but I don't know much about them.

Thank you, Mary21. I haven't looked into St Benedicts and Emmanuel..will do that.

Forgot the other two schools in the area are Ibstock place and Harrodian

Growingpeopleme · 10/05/2017 17:10

If Maths and physics are his thing have you looked at entry requirements for the Kings College Maths sixth form. State specialist school I think.

Depending on how bright he is: Westminster, followed by St Paul's and Kings College Wimbledon, then Hampton, Latymer Upper, Kingston Grammar. Next step down: Ibstock, St George's, Emmanuel, Reed's, Harrodian, then Kew House, Radnor, Halliford, St James, Claremont Fancourt.

Thank you, its awonderfulworld. Your list is very helpful. I didn't know of a few schools you have mentioned. Will look them up.
