Dauntseys School

I am new to Mumsnet and I am writing to ask advice and any opinions you might have on Dauntseys School? We are trying to decide for my 11 yr old girl between Kings Bruton where she could be a day girl or Dauntseys where she would have to board. Can anyone let me know of their experience of Dauntseys generally as well as the boarding community too?

I met someone at work whose DC goes to Dauntsey they talked very highly of it and said boarding was good but barely any full boarders.

Why do you think it is a negative that the staff's children are there?

Does she have a preference? Do you have other children to consider. MY daughter was due to go there and still will later I hope, all though we are still a little considering she follows her older sister to her school. I get a very good warm feeling at Dauntsey's but ultimately my husband felt that she was a bit too young to board as there are not so many boarding ar the lower school. The boarding house looks really nice though and the house mistress is nice too. We have other children that would need to be at other schools so for now the logistics look too complicated and it was also a case of two children going off to boarding at the same year and I couldn't handle the feelings of loss or the younger one left home for so long alone.

I also have a friend whose son goes to Kings Bruton but boarding, they totally love it. It looks like a well kept secret. I have not been there though.

Kings Bruton too far for us, otherwise I would defo consider it.

Really surprised to read this my own experiences with Science teaching at Dauntsey's are quite the opposite. The Biology department are particularly good - my son raves about how good his Biology teacher is. I've heard some negativity about history results - one teacher's results at sixth form level - not up to scratch.

I should add that I do not agree with the comment about staff kids as well - no problems from what I have seen!

I am also considering Kings Bruton. Lovely friendly feel to the school.
