Thinking of this for dd (year 4). Went to open day today and v much impressed by HM, he talked more perceptively about education and needs of girls than I have yet heard from any head. The girls seemed happy and very much a " gang" which I also liked. Dd would probably be a day girl.

Bump! Any current parents out there?

I know various parents sending girls there and I've talked to the new head a couple times. It's about 2/3 day girls now, with some flexibility boarding and weekly boarders. It's really come up again after some tough years - I'd recommend it.

Thank you! Previous head of dd's current school I know rated mr blond v highly and thought he was taking the school in the right direction. Dd v clear she wants to go to a girls school so it seems a logical choice but of course it needs to be right.

My DD was offered a place this year weekly boarding. It was with a heavy heart we turned it down in favour of a top 10 London day school and the fact that our circumstances meant that we didn't need the boarding element. Lovely vibe, great management team. Fantastic location. The registrar will put you in contact with other parents if you want to chat to current parents. Good luck!

A few girls from our London prep considered Roedean over the years and I always got the impression that our Headmistress and the parents were pretty impressed with the place. Sorry that's a bit vague!

I know several families with girls in the senior school. The initial feeling of being excited and impressed has worn off gradually, some concerns about teaching quality, a certain amount of grievance voiced about staff members' children getting preferential treatment, lack of inspirational opportunities, etc. General feeling is to go elsewhere for sixth form. Not necessarily relevant for a junior age child, and all second hand, so I can't attest to anything personally. Might be useful to consider though.

Just to add that girls moving to co Ed for 6th form happens at most girls' schools. Even the very best ones lose girls because they feel very restricted in the boarding bubble and want a change after 5 years.
