RGS would be the leading contender

Yep. Royal Grammar School. They've just offered their places for September however.

If you're considering state too then st cuthberts / sacred heart (all boys / all girls) are well worth looking at.

Dame Allan's - co-ed at break time but educated separately and good pastoral care. If you have DD then NHSG is fabulous, brand new school with amazing facilities. It's part of the GDST group.

RGS is the front runner for exam results, fully co-ed but more boys than girls per year group.

Depending on where you're moving to, there's also Durham School or Durham School for girls.

RGS I believe is 5 x 25 per year group. Has fab facilities, but has very high standards, I know many who never got in. Due to Heaton Manor state school failing its ofsted many have moved to the private schools. Dame Allans have upped there standards and could be full now and Newcastle school for boys is full in many years. Not sure whether you have DS or DD.
