Hong Kong agency recommendations year 10 for my son in 2018, his birthday October, 2003. We prefer year 9. GCSE and A level has any limitations about the age?

I'm not sure I understand the question. My son was born in 2004 Sep. He is currently in year 11.

That is correct, someone born in October 2003 should be in year 10 (UK) in September 2018. Why would you want your son to be in the year below he is meant to be? The only reason why I can see why is because some schools start the GCSE courses a year early, so by year 10 they would have missed a bit of a course.

You can take GCSE and A level when you're younger/older than y11/13.
October 2003 birthday will be y10 in September 2018.
UK State schools will only allow your son to repeat a year if he has Special Needs. UK GCSE and A-level statistics are for y11/13 only so they will want their good students to take it in the correct year.
Private Schools will be negotiable if you don't go for the most prestigious ones.

There are no age limits for taking public exams in the UK.

I think the agency are right, your child would be starting year 10 in September 2018.

If you are looking at private schools you have a bit more leeway with regards to moving up or down a year.

It isn't that unusual to place out of year from HK or some other countries where schooling differs. However not all private schools allow this and he would be almost 2 years older than the youngest in y9. It might make boarding arrangements more tricky. Also he may feel academically unchallenged by being in a lower year. It makes no odds for gcse/a level.

I have twins who were born in July 2004, so the same academic year group as the OP's son. They will start Year 10 in September 2018 and sit their GCSE exams in June 2020. They would then start Year 12 in September 2020 and sit A-level exams in June 2022.

It isn't a "recommendation" ; it is his year group.

It is generally accepted that unless there are exeptional circumstances such as special needs or having a late August/early September birthday that children do best both academically & socially with their proper year group.

Is your son currently educated with children much younger?
