Cedars school croydon

I am thinking of sending my DS to Cedars in croydon. Please can anyone share their experiences positive or negative. Choosing the right secondary school is so important and I feel like I need some guidance . My DS is a little above average academically and is very sporty . Loves art and does very well in drama too. He needs a push when it comes to being social but has many friends and is on the younger side of the class as he's end of August born. I hear cedars is very small and very focused on the child. But is it really everything I hear it is?

OP - All I can say to you is that there were 2 threads on here (I think it was last year) - a short one about The Cedars and a longer one about its sister school The Laurels. Both were very bizarre reading. Practically gushing in praise, in peculiar language that sounded as if it was all a promotional exercise or mission to recruit. Various posters claiming to be parents at the school yet all strangely writing in the same tone, as if in some kind of fervour. As I said very odd indeed. I think one of the posters asked for the thread to be removed in the end because certain posters were challenged about being genuine.

I would go and visit and talk to parents and teachers first hand, if you haven't already done so. It may well be a lovely school, despite all this?

If you look on Advanced Search under "Opinions of the Laurels School in Croydon Please" it's still there.

The Cedars one is still there as I read it last week. I think it was the same one as I found it quite freaky. It kept referring to Opus Dei and made it sound like a cult.
ps I am Catholic but did find it odd

I've got a daughter at The Laurels and we're very happy with it. It's an exceptional school. I don't know much about The Cedars. It's too far away for us to send our son or we'd be looking.

I'm a real, genuine poster btw Grin

Thanks woodlysmum and waterfeature - I've seen the cedars thread but it's years old so wanted to hear from recent parents if that makes sense. Sometimes new brooms sweep clean. Also I heard that the head of English at cedars is leaving. Finding the right secondary school is so difficult in croydon.good state schools are virtually non existent and the ones that are good are fully subscribed.

There are some more recent updates on the thread 'The Cedars School, Croydon' (you can find it on Advanced Search). I was also pleased to see it crop up on the 'SWLondon Boys Schools 10+/11+ etc etc' thread, alongside Trinity and Whitgift.

Disclaimer: I have two daughters at The Laurels, they (and we) love it for features that The Cedars also has: unparalleled individualised pastoral care, coupled with academic and sporting rigour. I have a son in Year 5, and I'd love to be able to send him there.

Thanks CSLewis .

We are Brazilian and we live in Brazil. My 14 year old son is studying at an Opus Dei school for boys only in São Paulo. We want him to go to exchange and who knows how to continue his studies in England. We have total confidence in the members of Opus Dei. My son told me that all of them are of better quality and they only seek the good of people. The school he studies in São Paulo is still small and everyone knows each other - it's a real family. The mentoring system is exceptional because in addition to the tutors talking to students about all issues - academic or otherwise - they tell parents the truth about their children - positive and negative aspects.
We are in contact with THE CEDARS SCHOOL for him to go study in September of this year -2018. He will be staying at the home of a school teacher who has a little older son. Me and a half husband are excited but afraid!
I would like to know: 1- Is there bullyng in school - are students from other countries well accepted? 2- Does the school have a strong academic level? Does anyone have 13, 14 or 15 year olds at school? How many students does each class have?

Hi SUPER, my son doesn't start at The Cedars till September, but I have some friends whose sons are already there; I'll ask them if I can give you their email addresses, and then you can ask them your questions directly.

ChesterBelloc · 24/07/2018 09:06

I've sent you a Private Message, SUPERBETA, with the emails of two mums who are happy for you to contact them directly. Hope this helps.

Dear All, My son has got through Royal Russell and Cedars and we are confused on where to send him. Any help would be appreciated??

DivM · 23/02/2019 15:52

Hi, Can you help me with their contacts as well please?

SUPERBETA · 24/02/2019 12:35

Hello, my son is doing trades at The Cedars until April. We are loving it !!! The personalized accompaniment and student assistance is incredible - unbelievable !!!! We are thinking about the possibility of our son finishing his studies at THE CEDARS.
I do not know any of The Cedars's moms because I live in São Paulo. My son is living in a teacher's house. The only mother I could get in touch with was Cisa - she is Spanish and lives in London - her son is also at 10 Year email: [email protected]; you can contact her - she was very friendly

ChesterBelloc · 26/02/2019 19:22

Hi there, @DivM. I have a son in Year 7 at The Cedars, and can certainly recommend it if you're looking for a small, nurturing school that emphasises the development of the whole person, not just their academic side.

(I don't know much about Royal Russell, other than that it's HUGE in comparison!)

If you have any specific questions about The Cedars, do ask, and I'll try to help.

Their phone number is 0208 185 7770; email is [email protected].
