I can't find a new thread, moving on from the old full one, so I thought I would create one (please tell me if I'm wrong!)

Last night ds stayed up till 4.30am doing his biology coursework Shock

This time the tsunami affect didn't work and he left it far too late to do a reasonable job. Which is a bloody shame because he wants to do biology A level and he has done so well in his other controlled assessments.

I wait with bated breath to find out his mark

Oh well, thank God for half term!!

Shut her door and get on with baking cakes. There's all weekend to go. I can almost feel the stress vibrations buzzing around your house and they won't help the revision and they'll stop the cake rising.....

My ds enjoyed the bit in the video about the seedlings inside a black box.

He still seems quite chilled about GCSE's so I'm feeling ok at the moment.

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 11:08

Laniakea - LitCharts look interesting. If you sign up for one month, can you just download as much as you like?

Laniakea · 19/05/2017 11:30

yeah you can pay the $9 or thereabouts, download everything you need then cancel.

Quadratilla · 19/05/2017 11:43

Latin Language this afternoon. Then 6 next week, 9 the week after half term and 5 the week after that. Having been really chilled is now dreading the Maths and is talking about not doing it for A level after all. The problem seems to be not in getting the right answers, but getting them in the right way - she seems to think you only get one mark if you have the right answer but haven't solved it in the way they wanted you to. Confused

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 11:48

Twitter says Edexcel Spanish was brutal but DS thinks it went ok. Not sure whether that is a great thing or a worrying thing?!

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 11:49

Thanks Laniakea re LithHarts, will show it to DS later. May be a bit late for Monday though Grin

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 11:49

Or LitCharts even!

Dancergirl · 19/05/2017 11:51

giraffe dd says the listening started off easy but got very hard quite quickly. She found the reading and writing ok.

Barmpot · 19/05/2017 11:59

I urgently need some help with English Literature. This is going to sound totally ridiculous but unfortunately 100% what are dealing with. My son's English teacher has OCD (she told me herself) so will not let the children bring their English books home. So throughout year 10 and 11 they have had to revise for all their exams without their books.

I really thought she would allow them their books before the exams but no. I've called school today to plead for his book before Monday but she is not in today. He has been revising using study guides, he is studying Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and An Inspector Calls and Power and Conflict for poetry. Can any of you point me in the direction of any more revision sources or do you think the revision guides will have been adequate. I'm thinking about all the handouts they will have had in class but can't bring home is there anywhere we can find similar on line. He is working really hard on his English but without his school books I'm unsure whether he's missing anything.

Dancergirl · 19/05/2017 12:28

That's ridiculous barmpot Have you not raised it with the head of English or head teacher before now?

Laniakea · 19/05/2017 12:28

Barmpot due to dd losing all her notes we're relying on LitCharts (litchart.com) - dd thinks they are good & have everything they need ... I can't really comment though!

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 12:28

Wow Barmpot that is ridiculous of the school. I am surprised it was not challenged with school earlier.

Anyway, the LitCharts that Laniakea mentioned earlier look good and there are quite a few revision aids around such as BBC bitesize to look at. Worth a try?

Dancergirl I haven't spoken to DS, just had a couple of texts from him so don't know much detail. We have done every past paper I could get my hands on back to 2010 so I guess he was well prepared! (It was one of the easiest ones for him to up a grade on to count towards his sixth form entry requirements).

Barmpot · 19/05/2017 12:45

Head of English is her husband! We have asked and asked and got nowhere, after the last set of mocks we got a letter home from the English department addressing the many complaints they had had about the very low mock results, basically they blamed the new syllabus and the children not revising hard enough. I've just been hit with a wave of worry that the revision guides might not cover something.

Dancergirl · 19/05/2017 12:55

Have you talked to the Head teacher barmpot? I am fuming on your behalf!

GiraffeorOcelot · 19/05/2017 12:58

Barmpot - I'm surprised the head is not involved, that is ridiculous!

I am sure the revision guides will certainly cover enough for a good pass, as long as the DC go through them properly.

Barmpot · 19/05/2017 13:11

The Head is next to useless, he leaves in July and having dealt with him and got nowhere regarding other issues I have not bothered with this one. My son has dyspraxia so I have spoken to both Head of SEN and Head of Learning Support. I've also written to the Head of year 11. My initial post made it sound like I'd just queried it but I've been on about these blasted books since year 10. The really frustrating thing is in his end of year 9 exams he was graded at a 7a for language and 7b for literature. In his last mocks he got a 4 for language and a 2 for literature. I'm not the only parent to complain but it's not got her to part with the books. Just had a look a litcharts and they look fab.

Dancergirl · 19/05/2017 13:14

bampot I presume they use their books in class and then have to hand them in? Do they not do their homework in their books? I would be tempted to say to your ds just to sneak it into his bag or wouldn't have that been possible?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/05/2017 13:19

Both of mine said Spanish was very difficult this morning. Hope PE is going better.

Barmpot · 19/05/2017 13:24

Dancer, homework has never been done in their books, they write their homework in their planner and then take it in on loose paper. Had thought about getting him to 'accidently' put his book in his bag but she takes the books off them personally at the end of each lesson.

BertrandRussell · 19/05/2017 13:28

Bampot- you still have time to raise this with the Head. I would ring at once, say it's very urgent and stay on the phone till someone talks to you..........

pasanda · 19/05/2017 13:59

Bloody hell Bampot - I am furious on your behalf. What do the governors have to say about it I wonder?

I feel like a bit of a novice compared to you lot - DS is in his first one this afternoon - PE. He scored highly on the practical and presentation so only needs 8/80 to get a C!! He's aiming for an A though. He doesn't enjoy the theory part enough to be bothered about an A*. He's so laid back it's unreal. Shame about his mother!!!

He's a bit gutted as it's the last day of school for them today as study leave starts on Monday so whilst the others will be signing T shirts on the field this afternoon, he will be in an exam! Only PE going on too. Oh well, he gets 45 mins afterwards to join in.

she takes the books off them personally at the end of each lesson

She goes round and takes them in one by one??! Unbelievable. I know OCD can be a serious condition but she must know it's affecting her teaching??

Is it too late to go in today and insist his book is handed over?
