Are there any teachers teaching GCSE media studies to Y11?

I've been looking on the TES to try to find resources for use with my y11 ds, as he has failed his mock exam and he is now way behind his original target of an A. His entire set have apparently done very badly.
The teachers on the TES forum who are discussing resources seem to have been teaching the game show unit for a few months, but his class are just starting it.
Is this normal?

If it helps, ds has been doing the game show unit for ages- I think they started in the summer term. And he is also doing an assessed piece in class-a 4 page magazine.
