Any Ripon Grammar parents?

I can't help being concerned about the new appointment to headteacher.
Why would one of the leading state schools in England appoint a ht with no state school experience?

Following a very clear and transparent shortlisting process the interview days would have been a rigorous process with governors and LA staff involved. The appointed person must have been the best candidate.

That is always going to be subjective though isn't it?

Ripon Grammar doesn't have a cohort which is much different to many independents - largely middle class. It's also selective (as are many independents). If We were talking about say... the head of Eton going to a comprehensive in Salford then I'd expect more raised eyebrows!

Looks to me like he has a strong cv, and as pp said, ripon's cohort are probably indistinguishable from Durham's in terms of parental income, middle classeness, interest inneducation, the kids are ripon are probably on average brighter than those at Durham.
