Radley vs. Charterhouse

Hello, I have been keeping an eye on this forum for quite some time and would greatly appreciate any input you may have on these two boarding schools. We are based in Asia and our DS recently got an unconditional offer from Radley and Charterhouse for Sep 2017 Y9 entry. Radley encouraged DS to sit their academic scholarship exam in coming March based on his entrance exam results and interview with the Warden. Aside from the obvious rugby vs. football, boys-only vs. co-ed in 6th form, and full-boarding vs. weekly boarding, I am curious to hear more about 1) the pastoral care and 2) academic standards at these two schools. Is one considered more academic than the other? Charterhouse has a larger cohort of international students compared to Radley, however the school empties out on weekends is what I heard. Are international students pretty much left on their own on weekends? Thanks for any insight you can share on these schools in advance!

we have received excellent pastoral care at Radley. If you'd like to PM me with any questions, I'd be happy to help. :)

My son went to a rival school and I was always impressed by what i saw at Radley. Seemed busy at Saturday match times. My godson was also there and certainly didn't go home for many weekends.

1805 & Abraiid2, greatly appreciate your input!

Do you have any views on Radley's academic standards overall?

It's a good academic school, from what I've heard. Certainly some of the teachers I've met from there are impressive.

they have a wider academic intake than some other local schools, but their results are very good. No soft gcse subjects are offered at all. So not the school to go to if you were looking for business studies, media studies etc.
