Math mock results

Asking for a friend

Her son has just done his maths mock and got 147 out of a possible 240

She thinks that looks bad but he has come 5th highest in the year

Does anyone know if that is a good mark, or if there might be a problem with the school and the marks are higher elsewhere or whether is just the marking system of the new exams

Any advice and anocdata gratefully received

The grade boundaries for the new maths GCSE are a topic of hot debate but please reassure your friend that children up and down the country are coming out with similarly low scores, the mocks, whichever exam board is being sat, appear to be very difficult.

I'm assuming that he sat the Higher paper. If you put a gun to my head I would put that score at roughly an A grade old money, 7 new money.
