I have another thread going re schools in Herts, Berks and Bucks, but it occurred to me that Wellington would meet my criteria. Is it as highly academic as I imagine it to be? And incredibly difficult to get into? My children are above average academicly but not in the top percentiles.

I live in the area and work in a prep school relatively nearby but don't know Wellington really at all. however I've been on a music workshop day there and the grounds and facilities are absolutely incredible. It's on my 'if I win the lottery I'll send DS there' list, It's £36k a year fees Shock no idea about entrance requirements and arrangements I'm afraid.

It takes a range of abilities and if your DC are above average they will not fail on academic grounds. Helps if they also have something to offer on the sport, music or drama fronts. And the school will want to know that you can pay.
These schools all try to make out they are a kind of holy grail. But against a background of ever increasing fees, even the better known boarding schools are finding it difficult to recruit a sufficient number of British students to maintain their British ethos- which is what many of the international parents are buying.
