My DS did his CAT tests today, verbal, non verbal and quantative reasoning. But some of his friends only did the verbal and quantative reasoning, is this normal, I thought all children sat all the CAT tests.

They all do the same tests, they are standardised to give the school a better understanding of what they are working with & that applies to all academic ability levels. They are almost always played down to the students and quietly take place within the school day.

Perhaps your DS & his friends had a different understanding of what had actually taken place (hadn't had a clear understanding of the distinction between the categories) or maybe they are staggering the tests and the others are doing part of it tomorrow?

My y7 DD has done CAT tests. I don't think she realises though!
