11+ Sept 2017 SW London/Surrey Independent Boys/Mixed School applications...

There's a girls thread. There's not one for boys. Or mixed. At least I haven't found one.

Anyone else going through this?

DS is in Year 6. Can't decide what to do. Currently applied for Hampton and KGS. Not sure if he'll make the grade and a 3rd school choice. Anyone else? Any suggestions? Also have a DD in Y4, hence considering mixed.

Halliford? (Boys).

Kew House. ?Radnor House? Mixed
Depends where you are but also St Benedict in Ealing

I have heard Kew House is quite good, but don't know much about it. It's not too far either. Ealing is miles away. I feel like I've left a 'back up' school a bit late.

Claremont?

Claremont is in Esher isn't it? That's a bit far. Is it a good school? Not heard anything about that. Not one we'd considered.

where are you based OP? Claremont has had mixed reviews - mostly (from my research) negative. I looked around it last year - thought it lacked warmth and personality, impressive building but actually quite creepy inside. Intriguing rumours about the religious leanings of the school - christian scientists - whatever that is. just made me have an overall neg vibe. it's all personal though. i know some people who love it. let me know where you are and i give you some more ideas.

St George's Weybridge, Ibstock, Radnor House, Kew House. Where are you based?

boys: Halliford, St James's are easier than Hampton, KGS.

Halliford and St George's are the two schools that friends' sons went to and they were nowhere near the level to get into Hampton or KGS.

Yes Claremont a probably a bit far but I would add that I have a son there and we are very very happy with the school. It is founded by Christian Scientists but there is no push whatsoever towards religion.

Considered Claremont for DD2 is it really strange?

DD1 doing Latymer upper and Emanuel as co-eds.... looked at ibstock, not so keen...

St James boys school is next to Ashford station.

i believe most are local and as it only goes up to 13, most don't travel far. if you class Putney/Wimbledon as London, then maybe.

My DSs went to St George's in Addlestone. It's very easy to get to on the train from Hounslow.

Applications for most London day schools close this week (I think)

So unless you can hand-deliver forms, there isn't really going to be time to add more.

(not so sure if schools further out have later deadlines, but there can't be long left anywhere if they are going to run exams/assessments/interviews and make offers at a normal time)

I'm actually doing 11+ for DD almost all schools sorted- it's DS Im enquiring for and he has plenty of time!

I'm mildly surprised there is no mention of Trinity of Whitgift. I thought it had become an annual MN tradition for there to be a huge thread, running to more than one part about those two schools alone.
