Year 11 Parents Evening.....

Would you expect to have a Parents Evening in year 11 before the end of February? Isn't that a bit late to sort out any potential problems?

DS's parents evening is second week in January. Yes, I think I would have panicked if it would have been left to March for example.

In my experience, they are usually in January. Yr 7, 8 and 9 in Feb/Mar and Y10 in June.

I guess it depends a bit on when your Y10 parents' evenings were. I've just noticed that we are getting two in Y10; one before Christmas and a second one in late June. In those circs, having the next one in Y11 in Jan/Feb with all the mocks results/data in front of you isn't too bad.

I think that was when we had ours. It was so they could be sure to get any parents necessary onside to pin their DC down to coming to revision sessions in school over the holidays. There were also two "cause for concern" evenings though, so if they were worried, they'd let you know and invite you in for a chat. It was definitely a no news is good news situation.

Problems shouldn't be raised in the first instance at parents evenings full stop - they should be raised as soon as they're apparent. So no, Feb sounds ok.

Our DS has his yr 11 parent evening mid November, but we also have a couple of parent information evenings. First in October and another in February according to the letter sent home from school.

We also had a parent information evening this month, as well as parents evening in November - well it's not really parents evening, we sit there while the teachers talk to our DD with a brief statement at the end to us. My DD seems very alert to how things are going for her, she knows what level her coursework has been marked at, what level she's got for tests and the fact they've just changed her predicted grades. The school explained that their final predicted grades will follow after their mocks.

If there's something you or your son want to know ahead of parents evening in February, don't be afraid to email them or encourage your son to speak to teacher. It may be they prefer to wait until February when they've got the results of the mock GCSEs.

DD can choose to see up to six teachers, so I'm going to suggests she sees the ones who teach subjects they'd want to continue with.

IME, exam year pupils, quite rightly, have their Parents' evenings in the Autumn Term, to give time for any changes that are needed.
