State and Independant schools near Godalming

Hi, I am looking for some advice for a good school for my son. We are heading back to the UK after being in Malaysia for the last two years and need a Secondary school for our Yr10 son. Can anyone advise on Secondary schools, good GCSE options either state or Independant. We also need a good primary school fro our 10yr old daughter. Advice needed. Thanks peeps

The most well-regarded state secondary in that area is Rodborough. The fact that it's well-regarded doesn't necessarily make it right for your son however, so you'd need to have a look.

Do you mean he'll start back into Year 10 or is currently in Year 10? If he'll be arriving part-way through the GCSE course, many of the private schools may not take him as they will alreayd have started the courses. It's the same for the state schools but they can't refuse on the grounds of convenience of course! It's also worth checking which of the schools start their GCSE courses at the end of Year 9 as some of them do.

That's really bad timing for a move... you'll need to see which schools even have a place or if a private school takes him. Unfortunately, spaces become available as students move away or get excluded- doesn't tend to happen in Y10 as it's GCSE time...
