Hayes school, Bromley

We are thinking of moving to Hayes. Does anyone know what that area is like? Is there much children clubs or activities around? Anyone who knows of or have any children in Hayes secondary school or heard if it's good or not?

We have been to the open day and really liked it. We also visited Darrick wood, Langley boys and Ravensbourne. We liked Beckenham area and Hayes most.

As we are moving from NE London, it will be a big move, leaving behind family and friends to start fresh. Our local schools are up and coming but not yet as great as some of the Bromley schools and we really would like a change! So as much information would be greatly appreciated!

Also wanted to add that it is very multI cultural where we are currently living, what's it like in Hayes?

We saw some house for sale that were cheaper than others. They back into either farmland or the common. What's this part of the area like?

I wouldn't say Hayes is multi cultural. Far from it. However it is a lovely area. Majority of those living in Hayes attend the local secondary school Hayes.

West Wickham is also a nice area too. There are certain roads in hayes/west wickham where you are in catchment for both Hayes and langley.

Beckenham is a very nice area too but not much for good schools. Only certain parts in catchment for langley.

Im sure you already know all the good schools have small catchment for example Hayes you would b we'd to live ideally under 0.8 miles to be guaranteed a place.

Darrick Wood is perhaps a little more multicultural than Hayes and the catchment area is Orpington which is the best part of the borough for transport links to London, if you're a commuter (fast trains to Charing Cross as well as trains to Victoria, Blackfriars and Cannon Street). Hayes high street used to have a great Indian restaurant called Ginger, if it's still there you must try it out! Agree with dory that West Wickham is also a nice area.

In Bromley borough you also have the possibilities of the super-selective grammars (St. Olave's and Newstead Wood, both in Orpington) if that's your child/children's cup of tea.
