Hello All!

Inspired by another recent thread and last year's SW London Girls thread, I thought I would create a thread for those of us applying to London Day Schools. I have put independent as I think 11+ has passed for most of us. Anyone care to join?

I have a DD (10) who wants to sit CLGS and SPGS. Ideally she would like to be a music scholar so looking at schools with a strong music department that is a commutable distance.

My DS had a 11+ KGS interview a couple of years back. It was very pleasant and a general chat about family and interests. Nothing tough at all.

Ashers40 · 20/01/2017 07:58

DD had a general interview with KGS last year. It was just a friendly chat about family, hobbies, books you are reading etc. Word is that a general interview is a dead cert for an offer as long as you don't have two heads, and indeed we did get an offer (clearly only one head Smile

Thanks. eek!

He had another one on Monday - so is struggling to reorientate himself to a different school.

Good luck to all your DDs!

JAGS - they send out scholarship invitations next Wed. So if you applied for a sports/music/art scholarship you will find out next week if they're inviting you in - or not. They'll also invite academic scholarship possibles in for a second round.

Assume you'd have to reach the academic standard to be invited back in even for a non academic scholarship though?

nocampinghere · 20/01/2017 12:57

anyone know if KGS interview the parents too tomorrow? Or just the kids?

Lifeisallhahahehe · 20/01/2017 13:18

Yes flour some schools you do the scholarship bit after the entrance exam (SURBITON) but JAGS wait until you have taken the exam.
No news for Surbiton as yet, JAGS next weds- hahah I just want to know!

life - am intrigued with JAGS as dd has applied for music scholarship. Do I assume she passed the exam (and will get a fee paying place) if they invite her for a music audition? They will have marked all the papers by then and surely it would waste their time to invite girls back who had failed the academics?

DIN2K · 20/01/2017 14:21

Nocamping - I think it's just the kids. We had a parental interview for another school, and it was very clearly flagged in the email.

Good luck everyone. Nearly there.

nocampinghere · 20/01/2017 14:54

thanks!
final hurdle tomorrow. then the waiting game. good luck to you all

orangeplum · 20/01/2017 15:30

No camping - it's definitely just the kids. When we went last year there were loads of parents and kids sitting in the waiting room. Your DC gets called, you sit and wait and then you go home. I agree a nice chat and we too got an offer post a general interview.

Good luck!

nocampinghere · 20/01/2017 16:23

thanks. i'm not in the mood for school admissions chit chat! hope DD is on form. have got her reading First News this evening... doesn't sound like it's required!

Lifeisallhahahehe · 20/01/2017 18:26

Fleur, I am really not sure!. I'm assuming I feel dd gets offered her scholarship then she has passed the test but I really don't know if that's means she has a place- but confused...

Lifeisallhahahehe · 20/01/2017 18:26

Should say I'm assuming if not I feel

Lifeisallhahahehe · 20/01/2017 18:29
  • yes it would seem a shame. Perhaps they invite those that they would offer a place to even if they are not going for a scholarship.... but I don't want to take that for granted! Hopefully someone can clear it up- good luck all
nocampinghere · 23/01/2017 09:48

did anyone hear from Surbiton High yet?
they are usually quick with their letters...

also KGS - the website link says offers will be posted on February 9th. I've been told girls' offers usually come out before that. Anyone got any insider info?

Thisdoesnotgeteasier · 23/01/2017 10:13

Nocamping, we are waiting for Surbiton as well. Nothing in the post today - hopefully something later this week. I think they normally send it out in the last week of Jan.

nocampinghere · 23/01/2017 10:31

word on the street (well playground!) is that surbiton's letters are always posted on a friday. So probably nothing until Saturday. My post doesn't come until late so please let me know when they arrive Smile. Good luck!

amidawish · 23/01/2017 10:34

2 years ago DD's Surbiton offer letter came on 21st Jan. It was a Saturday.
KGS offer letter came 4th Feb.

Lifeisallhahahehe · 23/01/2017 11:41

No news from SURBITON here and my post has arrived

Keep me updated! I really don't know when to expect it....

Ashers40 · 23/01/2017 20:00

Last year Surbiton Highs letter did arrive on a Saturday, and KGS letter did arrive the day after the stated posting date (as far as I know for both boys and girls)

highclere · 23/01/2017 23:05

My DD had her last interview today (we only did 3 schools). So relieved the process is over, that said, she's breezed through it and actually had a nice time, enjoyed the papers and meeting people at the schools. So now we have to wait for 10th Feb for results. Good luck to everyone waiting...

Pradaqueen · 24/01/2017 08:53

Good luck everyone this week. We've three school interviews here and two music auditions so a busy week. Roll on Feb half term....

Does anyone know how quickly SPGS posts the yes/no from interview?

OP posts:
highclere · 24/01/2017 09:03

SPGS say they post on 9 Feb and if you haven't heard by afternoon on 10th you may call them. I think it was in the email. Good luck! And with the music too!

Phaedra1234 · 24/01/2017 09:04

Pradaqueen: Feb 10 it is... Good luck for this busy week
