Hello All!

Inspired by another recent thread and last year's SW London Girls thread, I thought I would create a thread for those of us applying to London Day Schools. I have put independent as I think 11+ has passed for most of us. Anyone care to join?

I have a DD (10) who wants to sit CLGS and SPGS. Ideally she would like to be a music scholar so looking at schools with a strong music department that is a commutable distance.

Thanks Highclere. Regretting choosing three schools operating interviews and music auditions the same week whist also running a business....!!! If you spy a parent slumped in the corner, mumbling nonsense, that'll be me Wink

That must feel like doubling the number of schools but I'm sure will be well worth it in the end @pradaqueen! Interviews were all very straightforward for us but from past experience it depends on the interviewer. It's just tough that the wait is so long!

lilybookins · 24/01/2017 22:47

We had a no for an interview at alleyns today. It was a long shot - over 700 sat and I guess they interview just over 200. We are bursary applicants anyway so like I say, a long shot...

Pradaqueen · 25/01/2017 03:26

Sorry to hear that lilybookins. Any rejection is tough but at least you know you tried. Are you waiting on any other results?

Just joining this chat as am also playing the waiting game after dd sat 3 schools - main ones we are keen on are Surbiton and kgs. She got invited back for scholarship paper at kgs but then just a general interview so am wondering what likelihood of a 'normal' place would be. Surbiton has just been radio silence and I daren't call and irritate admissions! Anyone heard from them yet?

Pradaqueen · 26/01/2017 07:33

Good luck to those waiting... We have to wait until 7th Feb onwards for our schools....

nocampinghere · 26/01/2017 08:00

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 Surbiton letters seem to always be posted on a Friday, so expect it this Saturday or Monday depending on your post.

re KGS, did you/she have an interview with Mr Lehec?

Pradaqueen · 26/01/2017 10:59

Well that's CLSG done! Best of luck to everyone and hope they get the school of ther choice!

Is that miniP finished now, Prada?

Anyone got any idea what 'Offers posted early February' has actually meant in previous years re: LEH and Putney? Shall I camp by the doormat from 1st Feb onwards?!

Pradaqueen · 26/01/2017 11:27

Hi TRL - not sure as no experience of prior years. I think for us CLGS and SPGS are w/c 6th Feb towards the end of that week (9/10th). I have no idea re: size of envelope either so no idea what I am waiting for - thick or thin!! I'm sure a wiser person will be along shortly to provide advice....

nocampinghere She had an interview at KGS with a geography teacher apparently, not sure of name; he seemed to be quite friendly and no particularly mean questions. I read somewhere that a 'general' interview rather than delving into maths and english papers is a good sign and almost banker of a place but i wonder if this is just mumsnet-talk wishful thinking!
I seriously am not sure i can wait more than 2 more sleeps now for Surbiton results...every girl i meet seems to have sat the exam so it could go either way argh.

amidawish · 26/01/2017 12:01

keepcalmandcarryon2017 very apt username! If your dd got called for scholarship paper for KGS i would be amazed if she didn't get a place at Surbiton. Letters due this Saturday according to previous year's patterns. Or Monday if your post is slow.

DD1 got a scholarship at KGS a few years back. She had two interviews - one with the head and one with an English teacher. Things might have changed though.

We'll all know soon!

amidawish · 26/01/2017 12:02

so it sounds to me like she's got a place at KGS but not a scholarship. I'm not an expert or an insider though!

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 · 26/01/2017 12:07

amidawish yup, know she wasn't then being interviewed for the scholarship but hopefully didn't completely botch that paper for them! Please god don't let me have to wait until Monday....i will have sense of humour failure with postie if so! Oh and on the thin/thick envelope - from experience and from friends, thick means you're in (as it includes the return form and t&c - it could be A4 or A5 or even DL but must feel bulky). Thin and scrawny = bad news. Gulp.

amidawish · 26/01/2017 12:21

I don't think we'll hear from KGS until end of next week at the earliest. If she did well enough to be asked to sit the scholarship paper AND had a general, straight forward interview i'd be 99% confident of a place. Smile

Surbiton offer letters are A5 and not thick! (2 years ago anyway). Gave me heart failure i recall

fleurdelacourt · 26/01/2017 12:28

thick envelope = all the details of school, clubs, trips, uniform etc.

think envelope - is either a Sorry or a Waiting List.....

slightly jealous that some of you will get first results at the weekend - ages to go here......

amidawish · 26/01/2017 12:33

fleurdelacourt that is what i was told 2 years ago.

Surbiton offer was A5 and THIN. Def didn't have clubs, uniform etc. Neither did KGS. That all came later at the new parents evening in April (for KGS).

so don't panic at a thin envelope.

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 · 26/01/2017 12:40

ok good. Will just tear open envelope and try to ignore thickness/thin-ness. Surely there must be a kinder way for all us parents..this feels like torture!

fleurdelacourt · 26/01/2017 14:11

Oh sorry - please ignore me- that was just our experience from ds.

It's all a form of torture anyway? Key thing is not to rip the actual letter when opening envelope - hard enough reading the crucial first line without having to piece it together first (again from prior experience!!!)

highclere · 26/01/2017 14:19

LEH told us all envelopes would be thin (ages away!) but when my son did the boys' schools the offers were definitely thick (no clubs - just T&Cs)! I can't believe how long they make us wait!

Keepcalmandcarryon2017 · 27/01/2017 10:22

Update on Surbiton High this morning, for anyone who sat this school - rang as also have DD on waiting list for Yr3 entry and wanted to ask a few questions. Admissions lady confirmed the office was very busy as they are stuffing the Yr 7 offer letters and they are being posted today, Friday. She wouldn't give any info on the phone!!

nocampinghere · 27/01/2017 11:45

the wait is nearly over.........

nocampinghere · 27/01/2017 11:46

and thanks keepcalm for the update!

Pradaqueen · 28/01/2017 08:48

Good luck for those waiting on the surbiton envelopes today! We're not doing that one, but for those doing CLSG an email arrived yesterday informing that decisions are out by email on Friday morning (10th Feb).

Thisdoesnotgeteasier · 28/01/2017 08:53

The Surbiton letter arrived this morning. DD is on waiting list, which was our best guess on likely outcome. She received a nice personalised letter talking about what they liked about her application and interests and saying she had just missed out narrowly and they lots of kids get in off the list.
